Folks looking for personal views here. If you are a consumer electronics enthusiast, analyst or someone who's bought LCD/LED TVs in the recent past, would look to your guidance for a non-critical & in no urgency purchase.

Q. Does the TV price drop (and/or consumer's bargaining power) towards the end of the month/quarter/year? (Like the automotive sector)

Q. If you can wait to buy a value TV. (eg: I'm looking for a 40" LCD for about ~40-50k). What is the best time to go in for bargaining? Diwali/christmas etc?

Q. Does this price pattern vary by region? I am in Bangalore but would invite views of the knowledge of others in the forum

Q. Would love to hear the best bargaining methods ;) from the experts here. (I've seen a lot of people cracking awesome deals & frankly i could use some bargaining tips)

TIA for the help

December to March the following year. You would get best deals then.

Best way to bargain is to show the other person that you would buy only if you get a particular price and wait unless you get that price (I would rather negotiate highlighting benefits to the other person for a win-win situation).

If you are looking for best deals on Samsung TV's let me know.

It is not as if the prices drop during Diwali. This is just a lot of ad gimmick. They show that the MRP of some model is Rs. 1,25,000 and you are getting it for Rs. 99,000. That kind of discount is probably available all the year round. During the normal period of the year, the straight dicounted price may be Rs. 1,05,000. And after a lot of bargaining, you will get it for 99k.

Sometimes, companies offer discounts to get rid of older/non-moving models. And the discount may be by offer of a 22" LCD with a 40" LCD (because very few 22" models are sold), or a Blu-Ray player bundled or a DTH-HD equipment free, etc.

Diwali is the time when most companies give bonuses and performance linked incentive payments. The Dhan Teras is also one of the very auspicious occasions to buy an asset. So there is heavy advertisement.

But I feel that at any quarter end months (Jun, Sep, Dec, Mar), you are also likley to get good discount. Start negaotiations ealry during those months. keep the salesman warm but at the same time do not show too much interest or desparation. Be prepared to stage a walkout around 22nd. Close the deal around 25th.
