Can you use a blu ray player as a way to play music from a usb memory stick and connect the blu ray to my dac? Some players such as sony have usb input. Can this be done?

Would this be the cheapest way to play music from USB memory?

Blu-Ray players can be used for music playback from USB. If you buy blu-ray player ensure that it plays FLAC format also. Not all BDPs play FLAC. Also you should look for models that matches the input of your DAC. Some BDPs have optical out and others coaxial out.

Cheapest way to play music from usb is HD media player like Asus OPlay mini. They will play almost all type of media files.

Yes,I use Tosgiba BDX3200 & it can even play whole Bluray movies from USB.FLAC,WAV,AAC,Mp3 formats are also supported.
