Dear All,

Till date I have not been able to appreciate why the region code policy has been applied by the Blu Ray and DVD Association when they know that chips are openly available in the market by which most of the players can be made region free.

Most interesting part of the game is that the controlling body for both the formats does nothing to stop or make modification illegal by carrying out raids as they do for video piracy.

Is it a way to provide some business to the dealers because I have seen dealers in HK and Singapore charging their customer extra to make it region free at the time of purchase.

The entire game seems to be very hilarious and at times pointless.

Your observation please.

Thanks.

DVD region coding is pointless - especially when you can get players that are region free right out of the box at no extra charge. Sony does (or at least used to do) that in India. For Philips, it's just a matter of inputting a code via the supplied remote control handset and making it region free - the same can be said for Samsung.

Blu-ray regional coding is far more relaxed and makes more sense than DVD regional coding. I have a PS3 with 5/C coding and since I don't import BDs, haven't found any problems with it yet.
