Blu Ray is a "mess" - Steve Jobs of Apple Inc.

Sounds like a classic Steve jobs rant and there is not much for Apple to offer as alternatives.

Dear All

Apple CEO Steve Jobs states that no Apple product will have any Blu Ray feature or Drives because he believes that the blu ray software is a mess and they will wait till the sale picks up.

Interestingly Apple Inc. is a very active member of the board at the Blu Ray Disc Association (BDA) since 10 March 2005.

Steve says that downloading will be the future......maybe he is 50 years ahead of his time as there is a severe bandwidth crunch all over the world......especially in countries like India.

Very interesting and confusing stand on Blu Ray technology.

Discuss.

Guys I think we have got distracted from the central topic. Steve Jobs is probably talking about Blu Ray being played through a PC environment. If so, I am with him on the software front. Very few satisfactory options on the software front.

And the prohibitive cost of the hardware combines with the above disadvantage to work out to be a non-value-for-money product. At the moment.

I am sorry, Apple itunes or any linkage with that will not necessarily make it a better option than what it is now. If you look at Apple's history of innovation, they have taken a beat down technology and provided a unique proposition by extending the scope of it. If they did somethign similar with BR then they have to implement the spec quite differently leading to two camps. Apple vs. Sony + Co.

The hardware cost is high now though not prohibitive with releases of PS3 slim and a toned down Oppo BDP 80. As with all consumer electronics, this should to fall within the next 12 months or so. Even playes such as BDP 83 are nowhere near the scale of pricing that the original DVD and VCRs had.

Whatever everbody may think this thread surely helped us to learn more regarding HD DVD and Blue Ray
