My perfect choice is Pioneer BDP 180 as many forum members and online reviews suggest its very good for stereo listening. But it is priced 18k which I think is very much as i don't even need 3D.

i currently own Sony s380 which though has good sound doesn't support mp4 with subtitles/FR-FW of MKVs/layered folder structure etc. Thats why I want an upgrade.

Please suggest one!

Check if you can find Samsung BD-H6500 / H5500, definitely can't go wrong with it. Well within your budget & loaded with features too.

Samsung Blu ray Player Price, 3D Smart Blu ray Player Specs India

Else if your ok with Grey market i think you should be able to get hold of Pioneer BDP-180 for 12.5k - 14k. Provided your willing to take that chance.

Binu

Thank You.. are any FM having experience with samsung ones? I checked the price and it almost 10k. Are the samsungs one better than Sonys at this range?

Reviews of Samsung BD-H6500 / H5500 are great, however availability in the market is a challenge. I couldn't fine one for myself in Bangalore. Its total VFM than Sony when you do 1-1 comparison at that price. Hence ended up buying SmartBox, as my primary requirement was inbuilt WiFi etc.

I am using Samsung H6500 from more than a year, it's a very good player in terms of picture quality and features. But I don't think the stereo performance will on par with higher models like 180(I never did comparison but few reviews say sound quality is not up to the mark). You may not notice big difference with bluray but may be stereo. Apart from that, it's a bang for the buck.
You can check in the forum value mall in Whitefield, there is a Samsung store, i bought this model from there.

Sure will check if they still got the stock for Samsung H6500, how much did you pay? hope they can loop in some festival discounts :licklips:

H6500 has a firmware bug where it downsamples high resolution audio to 48kHz even when the setting is disabled!. Not sure if Samsung ever released a fix (going by their track record).

H5500 doesn't have this issue. Few things to note:
1. Don't think they have a DAC (or analog audio output)
2. They don't support jukebox or background music playback as only plays within a folder (can place all audio files to one folder for jukebox functionality)

Since you have a choice to upgrade, why not directly upgrade to a 4K UHD player like Oppo/Panasonic/Samsung?

Why buy a blu ray player? Just manage for some time and upgrade to a 4K player.

Some of them are available, however, being first generation machines they are sure to have some teething problems which need fixing and cost wise be expensive to boot.

So a wait is prudent. Meanwhile use a cheap DVD player and manage. Then upgrade directly to a 4K UHD player which ever is the better of the lot.

How do I check if my player has this bug ?
Currently I am doing bitstream without Down sampling

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
