Hi all,
Is there any blu ray player out there which can zoom the wide format 1080p movies to 16:9 aspect before sending it to the TV via hdmi .
I have a Samsung f5100 player which cannot do this. Sadly my Samsung plasma has no proper zooming function. It only stretches the image vertically.
Thanks in advance.

Hi josedandrew

I use Pioneer BDP 150 and BDP LX 55 which has the zoom feature...personally I find the features and performance excellent....there are also other brands like Panasonic, Sony which may appeal to you...depending on your budget you can decide which one you want to go for....

The Pioneers read external 1 TB hard disk like a breeze and firmware is upgradable via internet or thru USB. You could probably look at BDP 160 or BDP 450.

Hope this helps...

Is the problem happening only for BDs or DVDs as well? looking at the spec it seems for DVD upscaling is supported and also full-screen. Although not sure if that signifies stretching 21:9 to 16:9 but if I were you I would watch a 21:9 movie in the way it was shot rather than modifying the aspect ratio to see elongated (even if slight) heads of actors / actresses.

I don't mean vertical stretching. But like cropping from middle of 21:9 to 16:9. Losses the extreme sides, but gains a bigger image that fills the entire screen. Just like the way movies are shown in HD channels. Hope it clarifies.
