Hi Guys,

I am Planning to Buy and Blue Ray Player in the USA, but i will be using that in INDIA, now all these Players which i see in USA are 120V, Which is not Compatible in India and the one whcih compatible in both USA and INDIA are way too costly.

I would like to get a feed back from you guys on the below.

  1. I have Samsung 5 Series LCD, which blue ray player will be Compatible with that.
  2. Also how much would a step dwon convertor Cost in india.
  3. Which brand should i look at with a budget of 200$

Since this is Holiday and Christams time i would like to cash on the Sales which they have.

Other than the power supply, you might have to think about the fact that US is blueray region A. If you are planning to use the Blueray discs from India (which is Region C), it will not work. If that's the case, buy the player from India itself. You can also get region-free blueray players from US, but they are well beyond your budget.

The voltage conversion is not a big issue. You can get a good 220/120 V step down transformer either in USA or in India. The transformer rating should be at least 50 W. With your series 5 Samsung you should not have a problem with HDMI input.

As pointed out in the previous post, USA is Region A and India is Region C for BD players. So you will not be able to play Indian BDs if they are made for Region C only. But most BDs are now coming with region free.

Happy Christmas shopping

I recommend you buy an Oppo Blu ray player of the model within your price range and then buy the region free kits for that same model. Oppo's run on 110 or 240 volts AC and as an owner i can say they are ripper units to use in all respects.

Can you tell me which Oppo Model and what kits are you refering to .

i you can give me the link for the same it will be very helpfull.

Thanks in Advance ...!!

My panasonic BD60 is only 120V and its a current gen BRp, so its not necessary that all are 110-220V. To OP make sure you do check the voltage rating, before you invest ......

+1 to sam9s.
My LG BD530 bought from US is also 120V. Bought a good 65W converter for Rs. 165.00

Hey from where did you get a converter for Rs165/-? I would love to buy one,There are plenty of blu ray players to choose from the US. Most blu rays i have seen in India are multi-region,hence buying Bd player from US sounds great, Oppo players start at $500, which I have heard are excellent,200 is a lot for a BD player where even a decent one you can get for $70 like the LG 530

This has always been true for players sold in Asia (excluding Japan) and Europe. But it is not the case for players sold in the US and Japan, where the vast majority of players sold are 110-120 volts only. The Oppo is an exception to this rule and not the norm.

Although, an 'ALL Region' BD player is the best option, it is not as big a deal as made out to be. The reason being, that pretty much all Indian movie BDs are Region A/B/C. Also, the majority of Hollywood BDs released in India too, are Region A/B/C. Thus if anything, buying a 'Region A' player makes a lot more sense than buying a 'Region C' player even in India. This is so, simply because the number of 'Region C' only titles will always be out numbered by the number of 'Region A' titles.

I have a similar question. I am currently in Utah and have a Sony BDP-S570, which I will be sending over to India. My brother has a Yamaha RX-V363BL set up at home. I read somewhere that connecting the player directly to the amplifier will fry it. Can someone here guide me regarding connecting a player to a amplifier, when the player is a 120V device, working on a converter?

Any advice or guidance will be much appreciated.

NO, connecting the player directly to an amplifier will not "fry it". I presume that by "connecting the player directly" you mean only the audio/video connections and not the power connector. The only way to "fry" the player is if you were to connect a 110v or 120v device directly into the 220v outlets in the wall or in an amplifier with a 220v outlet. All you need is a 220v to 110v converter. The players audio/video connections can be made to the A/V Receiver and the players power cable will be connected to the 220v to 110v converter.

Yes, you're correct. The connection between the amp and blu-ray player will be made using a HDMI cable, and not a power connector. The converter is only for the player, as that is the only device with a different voltage.

Thank you Sanjay!

There is an LG Blueray Player for Rs.7000. I think the model is BD550 but this model is not available easily. Can anyone please let me know where I can find this? The comparable model in US would be BD530.

I've even bought a LCD TV from US. It only needed a right transformer to make it work. Is it really true that a equipment can be voltage locked? Just wanted to know as I would be more careful when buying gadgets from US.
