Hi All,

I want to buy a bluray player in US for my next week trip to India, I have seen Sony Bdp s3100 on deal, but found out at the last moment its Region A specific . Can you please suggest me any Bluray Player to buy:

Features I am looking for:
1. Wireless internet
2. Able to play videos from ipad 4

Price: $75-$100.

Appreciate your reply.

Thanks!

Any blu ray player you are going to buy will be Region A locked. So it hardly matters which brand and model. Very few can be made region free like Pana models (2012, not sure about the 2013 models).

But, it hardly matters, if you restrict yourself watching movies from Region A. The Region C Blu ray movies are almost 99% are region free, so your Region A player can play them without difficulty.
Only issue will be Region B (europe) locked movies, which are very few. All the region B locked movies you can get from US (region A). SO effectively you can play all of them.

Almost all players including Sony players can be made region free for DVDs using a universal remote or other methods.

Thank you very much for your detailed response, Can you please let me know about other features which might not work.

Can you please let me know about universal remote where i can get one in USA any site.

Based on your feedback i will buy a Sony BDP S3100.

There is one more issue of power supply. They have 110, whereas we have 220 V. Hence you need to buy an transformer based adapter (size of a bigger multiplugs) that costs less than INR 500.

All other features will work except that you can't access Netflix etc directly.

Universal remotes are available from 500 to 5K. If you just need it for making it region free for DVDs, use a basic one with a magic button (costs around 700), try it at Flipkart. Else one of the best universal remote is Logitech ones which I think starts from 3K or so.

Thanks again manzb for your quick response :)

You can try the bombayelectronics or the 220electronics websites for the region free and universal voltage blu-ray players from US. I have not brought any through these sites but I think some of the FMs have purchased from these sites.

My advice as usual - buy two BDPs - one for Region A and other for Region B. Buy reputed brands such as Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer, etc. This will work out cheaper than all other import options or region free firmwares.
