Hi bros,

I am planning to buy a bluray player under 5-6k. Suggest any players. Need good sound quality and Video. I have already a asus mini hd media player. I play hd rips fro them. I want to ask that will there be a huge difference in sound quality between the BR disc and rips.

Thanks

LG is selling a BR player pricing around 5k. But I'm not sure if it decodes "Dolby TrueHD" and "DTS Master Audio" (which are truly amazing loss-less surround sound formats). Again Yesterday I saw another model from LG that decodes the above formats but I'm not aware of the price, please visit any LG shop or other like Croma and inquire.

The quality of BR rips depends on how the file has been ripped. Still I believe that files above 4 Gb will be having enough data for good audio quality. The "huge difference in sound quality" you are looking for will demand a good system chain but I wonder how that can be achieved in low price.

will there be any decrease in sound quality in buying a 5K player or going for sony 370 will be good?

Shudnt if you take digital output through HDMI or SPDIF. Through HDMI you could transfer Lossless HD audio (DD TruHD, DTS MA, etc.) to your AVR so you don't need local decoding from the player unless you want to use their analog outputs which are usually 2.0 (composite LR) only.

I have planned to bd550. Give me suggestion if any other players also. My main purpose is to enjoy HD audio.

AFAIK, the difference would be there between any of two models when the audio is connected via analogue outs. Theoritically, there can not be any difference when digital audio out is used, I.e. when player is connected via composite / optical / HDMI out. So, from audio front, a 5k BDP should perform same as a higher priced BDP, but do check out the supported codecs. Also, an al cheapo player may be a result of cheaper hardware. (I mean, is there any other way to reduce the cost while one compares apple to apple w.r.t features and all?)

Slightly OT...if your AVR does not have TrueHD capabilities and your BDP can decode it, can you still get the TrueHD sound?

Yes you can, provided BDP has 7.1/5.1 analog outputs. You can connect them to a 7.1/5.1 speaker system.
And if you want the audio through your AVR, then AVR needs to have 7.1/5.1 analog inputs.

5.1/7.1 Analog Outs is one option. Even w/o Analog Outs, it should work.
Recently we had tried it thru HDMI Out from Blu Ray - HDMI In on AVR. Audio was set to LCPM and AVR instantly showed Multi Channel which is as good as Analog to Analog.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
