Hey Peeps ...

First of all a big thanks to Hi-FiVision and its members, i have been following the site for quite some time especially wrt HDTV purchase. I finally zeroed on in on the Panny v20d.

The dealer has promised delivery tomorrow, they initially tried to pass of a so called boxed pack TV, but thanks to Hi-FiVision i managed to check the running hours and it showed a count close to 153 mins or hours (not sure abt this) before taking delivery. I refused to take delivery, they also tried to have me take it as a standby piece till they get me a new one, but i didn't agree to that.

They have apologized and assured me of sending a sealed box tomorrow, i also took all the incomplete documentation wrt to the purchase with me including their copy of invoice and finance papers and the extended warranty form which will be handed over to them only after they deliver a fresh piece

My only worry is the abt the 5k which they had swiped for bajaj finance as part of the payment on my credit card, Keeping my fingers crossed ....

Congrats on your choice, the V20D is probably one of the best HDTVs on the market now. It is sad that dealers play these shady tricks and spoil the purchase experience. This is why I am reluctant to "book" an order for any electronic item that is not in ready stock. They will try to push off their own display piece or one from some other store after re-packing it. Good that you knew how to check the hours of operation. When I bought the 50X20D for my parents, I went to the dealer's go-down and picked out the box myself. Checked it at the store and it had about 7 hrs on it (by that time I had already tested the TV for about an hour or so with various inputs & HD clips).

I am sure you will get a pristine unit. If the dealer delays, call the Panasonic help line, they may help.

hi, can u please explain to me how to check running hours in panasonic TV thanks

1. Press the "Vol -" button on the TV (not the remote). Keep it pressed.
2. Press the "Recall" button on the remote three times
3. Wait for 2-3 secs and the service menu will appear
4. On the X20, the hours & minutes of operation are displayed next to "TIME" and the number of times the unit has been turned on is displayed next to "COUNT". On a new TV this should be ideally zero, but generally less than 20 hrs and 3 respectively is OK.
5. To get out of the service menu, turn off and turn on the TV with either remote or the power button on the TV.

Cheers.

@deba mo : I have booked it at Unilet Koramangala ,final price after hard bargain was 61k all inclusive however i could have got it for the same amount with emp discount at Croma.

If u have plans i will say hold on as they are yet top deliver my set, will let you know the outcome.

@cyber cat : Teja has covered the step in detail, tks Teja :)

The Unilet guys are supposed to deliver it today, hopefully i dont have to tussle with them again. Btw Panasonic Service Center called me out of the blue to show me a demo on the non existent tv :P .... Will keep u guys posted ...

The Unilet guys came over and delivered it at around 10:00 pm :)
Not that it was a very convenient time for me to take delivery of the product but then after all these hassles i guess its ok.

This time they got a sealed n boxed pack, the thing also looked new like it should r8 out of the box without dust etc .. i guess u all know what i mean.;)

Need to get Tata sky hd enabled on this one now , any idea how this additional sTata sky STB works for this thing, i mean i have a regular mpeg 4 stb from Tata sky and i guess u can get he second one also done for 999 but i want a HD box this time....

Congratulations mate enjoy your new toy ...

Manu : Thanks for the information. I checked with the panny outlet at MG Road (next to Bhima Jewellers) and they were giving it for 65K with finance option. I will wait for your review after your baby is delivered from the Unilet guys.

Doing this shows a small (4 by 4 inch) floating screen explaining TV features. No service menu is available though. Mine is 42X20D.

Greetings folks ...

Havent been able to test HD stuff yet on my panny , but couple of good quality dvdrips are being used now to for thebreak in , the Panasonic Technician who came for demo today assured me that no break in or special settings are required from this series onwards. But still am playing safe :)

Btw looks like the firmware on the panny is running on FreeBSD OS , just saw that while playing through the settings ...

I will be availing a multiroom connection and an HD box for my Tata sky connection, cant wait to test some HD although its gonna be 1080i....

BTW any suggestion which will be a better HD media player : xtreamer , Asus O play or WD Live..?

Can anyone point me to a good dealer in Bangalore to buy the HD media player ?

Also suggestions on a good decent player with wireless capability will be gr8 :)

Western Digital has just introduced a new player with built in hard disk (WD TV Live Hub Media Center with 1TB Hard Drive) for 200USD in US. It seems to be a good thing for me and in my radar to buy one. I am not sure about its launch in India. And it doesn't have the built-in WiFi.
