My LG C9 has gone Kaput

Its an opportunity to go 77". 77" oled had a price tag of 5.5 lakhs upwards a few years ago. Now it is just 3L ish. So salvage something for this and go 77 if u are keen on an oled upgrade.

My family has strictly told me not spend in electronics anymore. My wife took it as an opportunity to tell me how better it would be if we (meaning I) had spent money on gold.

I am not tempted by 77 inches as the symmetry of screen in the room would be disturbed (65 inches is the biggest that I can accomodate). But, I end up falling to temptation, I shall use your handle to pin the blame 😆.

My living room is away from kitchen and is not humid. It is pretty dry and have good ventilation on all sides.
Things have gone downhill for some time now. It is just not LG

1. My macbook pro just 2 yrs old, the rubber gasket between the lcd screen and the alumunium housing has become a gooey goo. My macbook pro from 2011 and 2012 is still going strong. It is out of warranty. But I'm not going to by a mac pro again.
2. My Nikon DSLR polaroid sheet on the lcd screen has wrinkled. The cost to repair is > 10,000. I refuse to pay any more money to these greedy corporates. I purchased a large polaroid sheet from amazon for around Rs 1000, cut it and repaired it myself. But I'm not going to buy a Nikon again.
3. The rubber soles of shoes just comes out in less than a year now a days. I remember a shoe by Power I purchased during my IIT days in Kanpur 1989 lasted till 2010 in Chennai. Now Power brand is owned by Bata. None of my current shoes last more than a year
4. Many of my Nikon cable outer sheath on cables have literally melted and become sticky goo. Old cables from the 90s are still going strong

The quality of plastic on lcd screen, rubber, etc have been compromised in recent times. Either this is because of deliberate Obsolescence planned by greed or due to climate change, I'm not sure.

Corporate greed for super profits is the only reason

Gold is better. Cant agree more. Electronics are junk and are liabilities. Snob value stuff. Dont get tempted. And dont pin it on me!!

Got a call today from LG support that the best that they can do is 20% discount. I told him that I would at least 50% discount as it is a top end TV. They said, they would discuss and revert. Fingers crossed

Ok u straight away negotiated discount and no panel replacement for free?

Of course, I asked and they dismissed that panel replacement for free is not possible.
Yeah first they will dismiss and we have to push. Many have gotten their 5-6 years old panel replaced for free and for some they end up paying for the replacement panel with 50% discount. Even if you get the panel replaced for 50% I would say it’s worth it rather then spending for a new Oled.

And you get warranty on a replaced panel ? How about that going bad in 10 days? Better is getting a new tv with warranty.

Not official but if at all that happens for sure LG will replace is my assumption. Based on my experience you just need to convenience them that panel died due to manufacturing defect. Also the probability of the new panel going bad in 10 days is very less.

I also have a LG C9 since February 2020, which has run 8735 hours till today. So far everything seems fine but I am still worried as OLEDs do not come cheaper. My smasung LED TV is still going great since March 2011.

Arun, was your TV connected to the wall socket directly or you used stabilizer/UPS in between?

I had put it on a distribution board. I have the entire house on a 3 KVA ups

My b7 had 2 panel exchanges. The 2nd replacement one developed a burn in a week and since it was still under warranty they replaced it again. And the third panel was fine for the next 6years(out of the 7 years it survived until it fell down and broke).

I am not sure if they are obliged to do if it’s out if warranty

They are not obliged but out of good will they do it for most cases. I guess I am on the luckier side in panel lottery. 2022 my panel was replaced for free post the warranty period after a lot of argument and it was a clean panel. Till date going good but my usage is just 2180 hours on the new panel since it is only used for HT.
