Q acoustics 3030i or Warfedale 12.1?

Dear Respected FMs,

Please help me decide between the above mentioned speakers for listening to mainly bollywood music, ghazals, bhajans and some English Pop…
I will be pairing them with Norge Concerto1000 amp for now and later upgrade the amp to Marantz or Denon. ( Only If I feel the need to change the amp) The room size is 240 square feet with my listening position is 9 feet away from the centre. I prefer treble over base but not bright, fatiguing sound. I will probably Not be using a subwoofer.
Looking forward to your valuable suggestions..

Thanks in anticipation!

Select a speaker with 8" mid-woofer & silk dome or paper cone tweeter with front ported or sealed box.

Hello,
I have been using marantz wharefedal diamond combo for some years. I listen to bollywood oldies , Indian classical, ghazals, Bengali songs and I am happy. I think either of the speakers that you have shortlisted is right for Norge . Perhaps you will not need any subwoofer because both the speakers can produce enough bass. In future you can upgrade your amp but Norge is a good brand and you may not change it . As regards your source you can invest money on a good streamer DAC like wiim so that you can stream your favourite tracks from your mobile, laptop etc if you don't have a streamer DAC at present. Don't know whether Norge has in-built DAC or not but marantz (pm 6005, 6006) has. Audition your shortlisted speakers and then buy. As a thumb rule go for the speakers first then choose amp according to the demand of your speakers. Please don't forget to let us know what you have bought.
Thanks and Regards

Thank you Sir for your valuable input! I have already procured the Wiim Pro Plus streamer and SMSL SU-1 DAC from the USA and Headphone Zone India respectively and will order the amplifier only after i finalise the speakers first. I am also not averse to the latest Elac debut 3.0 speakers at around rupees 40k in India currently. Will try to audition all three as far as possible. I will surely post my experience on this forum although it will be some time till I complete my purchases and spend time with the system. Thanks once again🙏🏻

Since you mentioned the kind of genre you listen to, i would like to give my 2 cents here. Avoid brands like PMC, focal, kef, elac and similar brands for bollywood kind of music. Prefer spendor classics, harbeths, graham, xavian, brands that use scanspeak drivers. You will have to go a bit higher in budget though.

I paired the Norge Millenium bookshelf speakers and later the Wharfedale Diamond with my Norge 1000. Any of these combinations will be ok in your room and the genre.

Select a speaker with 8" mid-woofer & silk dome or paper cone tweeter with front ported or sealed box.
The issue with most speakers having 8" mi-woofer is that it doesn't do much justice to the frequencies lying in the 1600-3200 Hz spectrum, and hence sound quite weak in this range.
Unfortunately, that's where you driver crossover point is also going to be. The only resolution then is to utilize a larger tweeter say 1.5" instead of usual 1" and have the crossover quite low like somewhere between 1500 and 2000 Hz.

Thanks! That is a very interesting insight and shows your in depth understanding of the frequency characteristics !

Wanted to add my experience with bollywood oldies particularly. It's the source which matters in the overall set up. If you are listening to 60s 70s and early 80s, source is very important, best being vinyl only. With my stint with Spendor, EPOS, Triangle and QA, overall representation has been musical and relatable and I love them all. QA is the only 6 ohms I have.

You might want to take audition for Triangle Borea and even if you are going to upgrade to Denon or similar in future, it would fit.

If it's built as a DIY, the Philips 8" full range (Octagonal frame) + tweeter with a reputed crossover will be fine IMHO.

Agree. But some of us prefer the ease of CDs and have already invested in a lot of them.

You ha

You've a technical point.

But, I would like to understand how all those large driver speakers like JBL, Tannoy, AN and others are able to excel?
