Hi Friends

This is my first post and hope I will get a good answer from all you professionals.

Short listed the below combinations and planning to buy next month:

1. Bose Accoustimas 6 Speaker system + Yamaha RXV 377/477 Quote: 83K 93K
2. Bose Accoustimass 10 Speaker system + Yamaha RXV 377 Quote: 105K
3. Bose Cinemate GS II (2.1)

I was bit confused after listing to Bose Accoustimass 10 with Yamaha and Bose Cinemate GS II. Except the difference between 5.1 and 2.1, the clarity and bass sounded more or less similar. I do understand the benefits of AV 5.1 receiver but as of now looking for a general purpose solution, not a real HT setup. Cinemate GS II is simple and neat, 1 point of failure (in case) and a reasonable price.

Your thoughts/feedback.??

Regards,

Don't get confused, let me make is simple. Depends on your requirement:

Movies/Music - 5.1 HT system (AVR + 5.1 speakers)
Music - 2.0 System (stereo amp + 2 speakers)

Irrespective of which system meet your requirement, there are better options than BOSE. I would not recommend BOSE for a 5.1 and NEVER for a stereo setup!!!

Different names and systems come into play depending on the route you want to follow. From what I understand you are more inclined towards a 5.1 system, hence look at AVRs from Marantz, Denon, Onkyo, Yamaha and pair them up with 5.1 speakers. Demo as many systems as you can because every speaker will sound different with every AVR. If you want a slightly more musical system or if you are also going to do a lot of music listening, then Marantz would be more suitable.

Remember audio is subjective so what may sound good to you might not to another. Please have a proper demo and only then decide.

There is a reason why we say that :) let me say one of the biggest if not the only success Bose has had, has been with marketing. Hats off to them for that, for etching their name deep on the minds of every indian. Wish I could say the same for their audio as well.

Appreciate all the responses.

I do agree that Audio world is really vast and there are various products, from factors, price points and personal preferences. Im 100% sure that no one product suits all. From the personal experience when I checked with different vendors/distributors who are pretty decent with 10+ years in industry, it is very difficult to judge what is right and what is wrong. Just as an example on AVR, I heard from one that Denon is not responding well to customer complaints, though the product is good, the Distributor is now recommending Yamaha. There is one who says Yamaha is not the right quality one, Marantz is good over all.. so the list goes on and on. And the same I see in the forums, topics go on and on.

I agree that Bose is overpriced and there are better product out in the market, but from an end user perspective (other than professionals) people want simple, easy to use and single point of failure, which I think Bose still has advantage, again this is the info I collected from internet.

Ultimately, it is not just the product there are various factors which one needs to be evaluated. Will go back and do some home work ?
