Hi all,

I have a 10 yr old sparing used bose lifestyle series 12. I want help in setting up a Home theater. what is the best receiver to use with the bose speakers.

Thanks all

based on my knowledge ...i think for your case ,the best will be BOSE only ..because BOSE is different from other types..there speaker impedance ranges are from 4 to 8 ohms ..where as normal AVR will be having 6 to 8 ohms .
Also in BOSE ,it is not having a sub woofer ..instead of this they are having Acoustimass module ..So I think to drive ur speakers u require the BOSE complete setup only..(some body correct me if I'm wrong..)but the problem prices in BOSE are very high..
Otherwise u can contact the BOSE expertise people for your queries.

Yes to some extent.
You can try:
1. Not to miss this Onkyo | TX-NR626 7.2-channel network A/V receiver | Home Theater Accessories (But again this may not be compatible with your lifestyle)
2. You can try with Yamaha receivers. (probably this would go through). One of the guys have tried for his lifestyle 25 series.
3. As informed earlier by FM, you would then need to check with bose dealer. But are they going to suggest you with different receiver is another question to be answered!
To Note: Bose purposefully make their speakers so that mix and match with other receivers cannot go through usually.
But again, you have couple of options to try: Onkyo, Yamaha and even Denon.
You could take your cube speakers to the Yamaha dealer and do a demo and check. If that feels good, viola! You are set!

I don't think you will be able to integrate a receiver with LS12 of Bose. cause this is not a simple speaker package like AM series of Bose. All you can do is you can use the Co-axial cord that comes from the sub woofer wire harness and connect it to the source's Co-axial out. This will take care of your 5.1. Moreover Bose has got their own proprietary 5.1 software so you don't have to worry about DD or DTS as LS12 is only Dolby prologic. Hope this clarifies your queries.

Moreover you cannot connect the satellites of Bose directly to the speaker out of the receiver as it has to be routed through their Sub to achieve the desired output. Which is not possible as this is not a simple AM series speaker pack of Bose.

I use a Yamaha HTR3066 reciever, HTR-3066 - HTR - AV Receivers - Audio & Visual - Products - Yamaha United States with my Bose LS12 acoustimas sattelites no problems as it will run 2,4,6 or 8 ohms impedence speakers.
Just ditch the acoustimas module and purchase an active sub, like this one from ebay, Yamaha YST SW216 10" Active SUB Subwoofer 100W FOR Home Theatre YSTSW216 YST II 027108924724 | eBay
And I can say it sounds better than before, the Yamaha reciever really pushes the Bose cubes nicely. I am experimenting with a plate amp attached to the Bose module and see what it sounds like.
This is the plate amp I will be using when it finally arrives.
MCA2250E 2.1 Channel Class D Plate Amplifier - The Loudspeaker Kit
But don't throw the Bose sattelites out if they are still in good condition, they sound good with the Yamaha reciever.

Just pulled the Bose LS 12 Acoustimass module apart and found that it is quite cheap in it's materials.
The speakers are 2 x 6 inch mid woofers wired in parallel back firing into 2 forward facing chambers connected by tubes which then fire out of the front panel tube.
The back chamber (face of speakers) is also connected by a tube running back into the front chambers.
There is no description of any sort on the speakers but funnily, there is a price sticker on both with the princely sum of 26.95.
I don't know the impedance of the speakers and would think they are 4 ohm in parallel giving an impedance of 2 ohm.
I am going to wire the speakers in series when I put the plate amp on and maybe shout it a pair of Dayton 4 ohm mid's.
It all won't cost much and with a bit of experimenting with polarities should be better than the original anyway.

It's been quite sometime since you posted about Bose lifestyle series 12 where you have altered your acoustimass bass module.

Firstly, I wondered how it got on.
Secondly, I wanted to know whether you had attempted to connect your RCA 2 pins to the back of Yamaha HTR3066 receiver (rather than the original Bose lifestyle 5 music centre control? does it work?
