Hi All,

Today morning while inserting a blue rigger gold plated cable it broke the doors of both my optical ports at the back of my Marantz PM-6007.I have the door and the spring set up that came off.Is it possible to attach it back.Or is it possible to have any other set up other than using tape to make the toslink cable stay in?Or would i have to give it for repair.I am located in Kerala and according to the dealer the stuff has to be sent to MZ audio for repair and he said that since everything else is working its better to avoid sending it and causing other issues. However these are the ports i connect to from my tv and pc or TV and Wiim Pro plus.

These doors are fragile and badly designed. Even when closed there is lot of gap around the sides for dust to go inside. Don't fret about it. You also get dust caps for these optical inlets. You can try searching for the SPDIF dust caps. These are better at keeping the port dust-free than the traditional spring-door mechanisms. Sometimes good CD players come with these dust caps instead of the stupid door thing. My ancient Marantz CD player came with this. You can also used ends of a damaged optical cable as dust cap too. Or you can buy a cheap toslink cable and cut it at both ends to get two dust caps free. Getting a cheap toslink cable will be cheaper than getting a dust cap (which are mostly attrociously priced)

The issue is i used the toslink for connecting to my tv.Now the toslink doesnt seem to stay in palce any more

The optical plug has 4 sides. 3 are bit curved. One surface is fllat with a thin raised ridge. On this surface stick scotch tape (one or two layers). This is how I fixed one of my ports.

If you have good manual dextirity with your fingures and tools, you can insert the spring horizontally using forceps. Then insert the plastic in the grove and push it firmly till it goes inside the housing (you can use screw driver to push the flat plastic inside).

well i didnt want to stick tapes or anything. This means that other than getting it repaired by sending it to mumbai i have no other option rt?

They will definitely not repair it. They will replace the entire board that has the toshiba optical ports.

Why not try putting some paper / cardboard packing since the cable is seldom removed? I used to do this on OLD Yamaha AVRs whose cover used to break easy with time.

well anyways now i have one more issue. My Right channel is now having less sound and less clear. I stumbled on this optical issue while swapping speakers and cables and channels to find out as to where the problem was.

Now the audio store has asked me to send this product from Kerala to Mumbai to get it checked and repaired. However since our couriers can mishandle and create more issues in transit, i have decided to carry it myself to Mumbai. So my question is does the MZ audio store address in Mumbai accepts devices for repair or is it at some other location? And by train which Mumbai terminal is closer to MZ audio?

Did you swap the left and right speakers connections to make sure the problem ls with the amp not the speakers ?

Yes i did. I swapped both speakers and wires and the channels and tried.Every time its the right channel thats a bit damp. Its like a thin silk cloth has descended over the speaker but its obvious. I made my sister too listen without telling here which speaker. She picked it out easily though she's somebody who doesn't care much about sound.

It is as if the sound is distant but not too much. The difference is really small but very very perceptible to the point that if u play with both speakers you can realize the left channel being more pronounced than the right. Swap it and then the right becomes more pronounced than the left.

I am in Kerala(Kollam). And the authorized people here are a joke. My dealer here says to send it to Mumbai. Is there any good service center in Kerala than MZ audio where i can get this fixed?Thing is apart from the dealer every person i made it listen here could pick the difference without even telling them. And hence am afraid if the mumbai MZ guys would be able to.Please advice as to what i should do

also a question could moisture cause this as it had not been used for say 5 months but since am here i have been using it since august.
