Bought Pioneer BDP 170

Hi All,

When I checked with Dealers in Hyderabad last week, Pioneer BDP -180 was available for Rs 14000 with 1 year manufacturer warranty. Is it a good deal?

Can't find much reviews for the 180 online. Pioneer 170 does not seem to be available in the market.

I am in the market for a blu ray player with Wifi and as of now this is the only one which has that option. Tried across all the retailers as well as the online outlets. Surprised to see Wifi blu ray player is not available with anyone.

my TV does not have 3d nor it is 4k model. Really not keen to future proof but this seems to be my only option as of now.

Hi,

Yes, most of the Blu Players does not have Wifi enabled :( I really don't know what is the logic these brands not having this feature in the players. Even I had checked most of the dealers none of the brands come with Wifi feature.

Regards!

For 14k seems a good deal considering its with manufacturer warranty.... In chennai a dealer is quoting 16.5k, higher than mrp!!

Most Blu-ray players are being phased out or will become extremely cheap as UHD/4K Blu-ray players are around the corner and they are the next big "premium" toy.

Unless you have a ton of Blu-ray discs I would not advise a Blu-ray player. HTPC or even a smart router makes more sense especially in this day and age of streaming content like Netflix.

I considered streaming as an option. But felt to play the DVD's / personal videos on external hard disk, blu ray is the best option.

A lot of reviewers online mention experience of watching a movie on Blu-ray is better than streaming services. There is still some time before they are phased out. Content for 4k is still very negligible. Majority of the content is not on HD. Or HD content is not available directly in India

It was available in hifimart.com for 15,990 but currently out of stock. Keep an eye there

But I heard BDP-180 is one of the best blu ray players now which can play all formats and even good for upscaling dvds. Also on the price you paid for BDP-170 it is just 2000 Rs more

BDP 180 is not region free. The cheapest region free one which I found in Amazon was a sony, pricing around 20k. I am not sure whether its genuine, as sony website do not show a cheap region free BDplayer. Maybe a modded one for sale in amazon

There's a region free Pioneer 450 available in the For Sale section. This is a very good player.
