I have a budget of 50 to 80K
I already have 40" SONY TV and PS3, my usage movies 40%, music 20% and gaming 40%

I am confused what to buy, that should be good for next 8 to 10 years:

Boxed Packages like
Yamaha YHT-299 Home Theater Package (Black)
Rs. 41,101.00 in Amazon

or assembled setup

av, diff speakers from diff companies, active sub whoof etc
What will be the cost

Please suggest

thanks

The upgrade bug will hit sooner in case of an htib. You could consider a 5.1 speaker package and a matching receiver. This way you wil have the option to either upgrade the receiver or the speaker setup.

I have never quite understood what the fuss is all about for the Yamaha Htib you listed. For a little more money, you can get yourself a proper full blown home theater that will sound better than that Yamaha for sure. Unless off course, you are tight on space, I would not touch a single driver compact speaker system.

Due to the limited frequency response from a sub satellite speaker package, you'll get tired of the sound. More so, if this going to be the sole system for music and movies.

Something as basic as Polk's Fusion speaker package mated to a decent receiver will keep you happy for longer. Yes; I will agree it costs a lot more but in the end, the money spent will be well worth it. With a compact system, you'll be happy for a short while, then you'll want to sell it and then spend again on a full blown system.

If funds are limited, take the build process step by step. Start with a nice pair of book shelf speakers like Polk Audio Rti A3 mated to a receiver. You can add center and surrounds later on and save up for a nice sub woofer.

If you must go Htib, Pioneer have some very interesting products that cost a shade over what you will be spending for the compact Yamaha.

Most popular brands have 5.1 speaker sets. Polk, elac, Wharfedale, KEF, Pioneer, etc are quite popular. Visit the local outlets and demo them. Pick the receiver that makes the speakers sound best. You could also check amazon India for some pioneers, polks and elacs. Olx would help introduce you to local dealers selling imported stuff.

5.1 means 5 speakers and 1 sub. Similarly 7.2 would be 7 speakers and 2 subs and so on. Google for various home theatre images to see how speaker are located in each.

I'm also in the same boat. Initially, I also considered YHT299/2910, but after auditioning it, I junked that idea. Then, I auditioned Denon 1200 AVR paired with Polk 440 bookshelf speakers, I've zeroed in on that set-up for now and will add sub-woofer, surrounds etc later on when the budget permits.

You should try building your setup slowly which will give the best quality components added to your home theater instead of going with htib.

I went the HTib route and had to spend for a AVR within a few years. Mash's suggestion is right. The upgrade bug will hit. Yht 299 does not support Atmos / DTS X. In a year or two there will be much Atmos content and you will feel frustrated.

I recently purchased a Denon X1200W which supports Atmos and DTS x and I find it good. You may find it in Amazon for 42K without Indian warranty and about 48k with warranty. Good for a small / medium sized room upto 225sqft. You can add speakers as your budget permits.

Building your own set up is strongly advised, this is going to be quite an adventure. And also as mentioned earlier in this thread, sooner or later the upgrade bug is going to bite you and then you will be tied up if you have a HTiB.
Read as much as you can in this forum, there is tons of information. And audition to trust your ears, you must know what pleases your ears and more importantly the soul.
Your 40" tv is more than enough to start with.
Invest on the amp and speakers.
Dali speakers have a lot of positive regard in this forum, do check that out.
