I bought a 50 inch 3D plasma model Panasonic 50VT20 eight months back and gotta say it has served me well but unfortunately it fell off from the wall last night and the entire screen been shattered. Ive called the dealer and they will be sending a technician in a day or two but Im not too optimistic about this situation. Need some help from you guys what kinda situation Im into have I lost the plasma? Can it be repaired?

sorry for your loss, did the dealer/panasonic people did the wallmounting or yourself?

it was done by them only but they dont take any responsibilty for this kinda damage and as 8 months have already gone they claim that something is wrong with the wall.

That's very unfortunate.

Repair will involve entire panel and glass replacement and they will have to see what else is damaged. I don't think warranty covers this - insurance may cover such problems.

Kindly let us know how the wall mount was done, so we know what to avoid.
- What kind of wall is it - brick, stone or concrete blocks?
- What kind of wall plugs were used - metal concrete plugs or plastic plugs?
- Did the wall plugs have anchors?

Woah! Hearing this for the first time.
Did the base plate come off the wall? Its kind of scary. Plasmas are inherently heavier. The installer should have added bolts to all the mounting points on the base plate.
Did water seep into the wall ( makes the wall weaker).

BTW, title is kind of misleading. I read it as "Broken 3D, Plasma 50VT20". I thought something was wrong with 3d on this model.

donot let them get away that easy. They should have done a better job.

even if the base plate has come out from the wall it might be due to improper/incomplete drilling and they can't say the wall is weak....

whatever it is, try to take some snaps of the wall mounts and mention that you have already taken the pics when the technician visits, this will make them think that you'r ready to take it up legally and they might come up with few options rather than telling that it's not their fault....

Yes ur rite. Dont leave them easily. this is your hard earned money.

Ask them where in warentee terms it is mentioned "Installation at owners risk". Or Installation is not covered in warentee.
If it is there ask why it was not informed ,so tat you would have calculated and weighted the risk. Initially be calm ,but use your anger in rationed way.
See if it helps --many times the "Special service" you get is directly proportional to your nuisance value.( Was in Industry as product mktg had ...so this is first hand expereince)

Very unfortunate and very rare. This reminds us that we also shall be present and watch to ensure that the technicians are doing it correctly. They may be in a hurry to finish the job and move over.

Did the set was insured? then notify the insurance co as well. Those who are not insuring such costly items, please note this and take adequate cover soon. Even though there is only a one in a million chance to occur such events, we do not know where it happens next.

Read the part of the lyrics from Floyd's the wall

Hey you, out there in the cold
Getting lonely, getting old
Can you feel me?
Hey you, standing in the aisles
With itchy feet and fading smiles
Can you feel me?
Hey you, dont help them to bury the light
Don't give in without a fight.

But it was only fantasy.
The wall was too high,
As you can see.
No matter how he tried,
He could not break free.
And the worms ate into his brain.

Hey you, out there on the road
always doing what you're told,
Can you help me?
Hey you, out there beyond the wall,
Breaking bottles in the hall,
Can you help me?
Hey you, don't tell me there's no hope at all
Together we stand, divided we fall.

bad news, i feel buying a new tv would work out cheaper than repairing this one. Try to see what you can get out of the company first, if nothing works look at buying something new, repairs may turn out to be expensive.
