can anyone Please suggest me a decent 2.1 speaker for a home theater . I know the top ends are good, but, the budget ones are confusing. It may not be loud enough but tonal quality should be decent for movies.

Hi anitasudip

Do you already have an AVR? Are you just looking out for 2.1 speakers or you are looking for 2.1 powered speakers? Please let us know so that we can help you better...any specific budget you have in mind? What is the estimate listening area of the room / hall? IS your choice more music or movie use?

dear
my requirement is very small. Actually my room sizes30 feet by 15 feet. I need to use the speaker for home theatre projector. That is also for a basic home theatre projector. I need a good powered sound system mainly for the movies. My budget is around 7 to 8 thousand rupees. Maximum i can stretch it up to 10000 rs. I have heard a couple of so called high end home theatre system which i was not impressed. .they are costing around 30000to40000.They are just
loud but the quality is not that good. In my friends place i have heard bose lifestyle, that's good but that is beyond my budget.so i like to remain satisfied with a standard music system 2 .1 speaker which is good for the movies with good tonal quality.

Go for harman kardon soundsticks 3. They are under 10K an are a very good value for money.
They sound good for music as well as movies and also look very good .

Hi anitasudip

with the budget you have, you would most likely get 2.1 computer speakers which do give some good spatial effects...Edifier, Creative , Logitec etc do exist in the market and would sound better to some extent...the challenge is that you have almost 450sq ft (30 x 15) and these speakers would not really provide you the real movie experience you would expect.

if you want to really enjoy your music and movies you should look at some entry level Home Theatre systems. in the market..there is Yamaha YHT 199 or YHT 298 / YHT 299 which would be available for demo at a Vijay Sales / Croma / E Zone etc...please audition the same and decide if it meets your expectations and budget...this means increasing your budget to 25k - 35k depending on the model available.

Hi Fi Mart has good combo deals for 2.1 systems and 5.1 systems available which are good in terms of output and quality.

2.1 setup is a Marantz integrated amp PM 5004 with 2.1 Boston Acoustics Soundware XS speakers.....this would cost 33k.

The 5.1 setup is the Marantz NR 1504 + Boston Acoustics Soundware XS 5.1 system which will cost around 51k

There are tons of reviews and videos posted by users across the world on various home theatre products...you can shortlist a few models and then take a good decision after demo and reading reviews.....

There are HTiB (Home Theatre in a Box) systems like LG, Panasonic, Philips, Sony etc which start from 9k onwards till 25k...these are budget systems and not actual Home Theatres which really do the decoding of movies and the effects you get from each speaker...

End of the day...it all depends what appeals to you and your budget....all the best....hope this helps.
