Hi everyone... I have been a forum member for quite a while but this is my first post regarding building a small budget home theater for me from scratch...
Let me tell some thing about me first.. I am a gadget lover like mobile phones, media players, tablets, computers etc like most of you here, also I started understanding bit about home theaters and wished for one only through this forum...I have never owned even a headphone worth more than 500INR that's my experience with audio part of home theater..regarding video I comparatively know well...never had first hand experience with any hifi stuff I just read through lot of websites and just understand the trend some stand in mind some fade away...
Reason I started posting now is I am buying a flat in chennai which is under construction will be finished in 8months from now...I afforded it only through loan...it's my wish to build a small budget home theater in my new home it'll be done in the living room ...
I don't know whether I'll be successful in fulfilling my wish because of time
money and other factors which you people here understand well than me...but i want to go till the end thatsy I posted let's see how and how far I reach...
I can't build and purchase very soon it'll be slow only through savings but it can be only through the advice of you all and data in this forum..I'll try not to waste anyones time here...
I hope this long intro doesn't bother anyone....hope to speak with u all soon...I'll post the drawings of my ongoing flat soon... I have to take advice from you people from the very beginning stage....I'll sleep happily tonight....good night

welcome to the forum. ramm.. and start the build slowly and steadily with adding components one after the other.. and you will have a good build over a phase of time that you can enjoy in your new house...;

Welcome to HFV. Please take your time. Read the threads carefully and build your HT step by step.

Welcome... I can empathize with you never having spend much on anything audio, as I too did the same for years.

Like advised before take it slowly, build a complete mental picture with each component brand in place then shop patiently. Do not fall for the consumer itch of buying something today wanting to setup something this weekend only.

Hi.
Will it be a concealed wiring system?
Are u planning an all new avr?
Well, ht systems use more speaker cable , so many budget conscious people go for poor cables. Dont do it unless you are going for HTiB system.
You can opt for slightly used 2-3 yo avr too. Too good a vfm thing.
Watch out the market for great deals during upcoming festive season.
All the best.

Hi thanks for all your response..
@entsurgeon I am not going for htib that's one thing I can tell surely...wiring is what was running through my mind yesterday and today thanks for bring it up...I don't know how I am going to hide the wires ..searched net which mostly pulls out foreign content but that doesn't suit here as the walls will be made of complete concrete...
I will search the forum today and see what I should do since this is the first thing I have to talk with the builder ...I was thinking of a new avr but I'll consider you advice while shopping for one..which will happen late I suppose...

Welcome to HFV ramm - Lots of reviews and suggestions available on the forum. Post which you can start auditioning as many set ups as possible before you take the plunge

Welcome to HFV,

Best of luck on your journey. First decide on budget, Max u can spend. U can build a decent HT in not so large a budget. Don't rule out HTiBs upfront, They are not that bad as people beleive, Audition yourselves. If you are on tight budget you can start with an Yam/Onk HTiB with a budget of 22-25K. Over the time, wallet permitting, You can upgrade all the speakers with quality replacements gradually. One thing more, No mater how much you spend, there is always a Better/Costlier system out there somewhere. So, Don't go looking for best HT. Go looking for best HT that you can reasonably afford. Audition/search for everything and you will never be satisfied with what you will have, however good it's performance.

Regarding wiring, First decide about positioning of components, and as your pad is under construction, u can provide for wiring when all electrical fitting is being done in yor flat. Talk with builder about it.

Again, Best of Luck dude. Don't worry, You will be able to get it and don't forgret to aim reasonable.

Ramm, Read through your intro, welcome to HFV. Most of us have been in your shoes or are still in the same position. So you have lots of people here to understand your situation.

You can build a good HT system step by step if you dont mind delayed gratification. Something like AVR-Fronts speakers-Centre- Sub- surrounds etc. If your flat is under construction, why dont you lay channels and draw wires for speakers now itself? You can use Finolex 1-2 mm sq, they are quite decent. If you wish to terminate them, see to it that you get good banana plugs or spades from a reputed company, but that you can do later.
And the journey to your HT will be as much fun as getting there.
