Hi

I found a used samsung plasma 51 inch D490 in the local Croma store. The store person mentioned that its been used for last 3 months as a demo piece.

He is willing to sell for 53000 final price... is it a good buy at this price?

Thanks

Too expensive, a demo piece would be running 12 to 14 hours a day and also would be handled badly by users. They should sell at half the price. It's too expensive for the condition of the equipment on sale.

Yes D490 is 2011 model. All Samsung TVs with the letter 'D' are 2011 models, 'E' for 2012, 'F' for 2013 and so on. Last year's 51E490 was close to 60K (retail - not MRP). So 2011 model should be sold for no more than 35K since this was a display piece. Even assuming that it was manufactured late 2011 (Nov/Dec/Jan), still it muct have been in the store for at least 15/16 months. Check the usage too (see threads on how to do this).

D490 is not full HD model. At 50 inch size full HD is better unless you are watching it from a distance more than 12 feet. Also check for image retention / burnt images. Samsung products have warrenty for one year only, this also to be checked.

Few days back I saw brand new 51E490 at Mumbai retailing for Rs.58000. A month back flipkart was having it for Rs.58990, though currently its out of stock. Rs.53000 for a display used 51D490 is way too pricey.

Rs 30,000 tops no more. Do not waste your money.

We do not know how much misuse it has been into.

On top of that you do not know what kind of misuse it has been into and you can't say this by just looking at the hours run.

Most display models are displayed at torch mode(dynamic/vivid) there is good chance that tv have IR and may be a burn in too, I would avoid buying 2 year old tech no matter how cheap it is, I'd suggest wait and save and buy latest and brand new only.
