Hi Friends,

I am on my household designing spree...would like to add a dishwasher to the list of appliances for the purpose. But I have very faint Idea of what to look for as such in it when buying it. Please share some information on this appliance and what factors & specs to look for while going for one. Was little bent on IFB as I have a IFB washing machine for more than 12 yrs without any trouble. But open to other options too.
We are a small family but have guests coming over frequently. Out cuisine is mostly normal Indian stuff including frying.

Thanks & regards,
Saket.

My sister-in-law has the IFB dishwasher and it is giving her good service. Siemens also makes good dw's but slightly expensive.

Have IFB Zephyr Ex for last 4 years or so. As long as you don't let the oil and stains dry before washing, you'll be fine.

Can you guys please share the approx price that you guys paid for the machine? & What detergent solution is used...is it oridinary powder or some special cleaning agent? Are they portable types or fixed permanently?

THanks for your replies though.

IFB Zephyr Ex 2008 internet price was about 22k.

Detergent etc is supplied by IFB (they will deliver it to your home), or you can get it from local commercial suppliers if you know any. It is not regular detergent.

Portability is like a washing machine - you need a source of water (screw tap) and a drain pipe. You will need 15A plug.

how much water does a dishwasher use ? imagine six people have had a normal north indian lunch or dinner....

thanks..

Please also help us with the following:

Does the dishwasher take 30-45 mins during a normal wash cycle? This will be useful to understand the power consumption.

What happens when there is power failure during wash cycle. Is there any provision to drain just like washing machines?

Hard water can be a nightmare. Did any of you face any issue with hard water?

I have Faber DW - I am quite happy with the same but Faber service is terrible so I am not recommending buying Faber.

Wash cycles are at least 1 hour. Faber models do not restart by itself after any power interruption. So if you do not know the state - only option is to restart the wash.

My question as well,..... is dishwasher capable of washing every tom dick harry kinda utensil or is there a category .....

Quantity of water & power consumption - please check the specifications
WATER CONSUMPTION 12.4-17.2 LTS
ENERGY CONSUMPTION* 1.26KWH
from
Product: Zephyr DX

The normal wash cycle we use includes a prewash and totals approx 1 hour. Power consumption will depend mainly on how much heat is used for how long in the program. Dishes are steam dried. There's an economy mode that takes half the time for less dishes.

Zephyr restarts/resumes the wash in case of power failure. I have not timed it to see whether it restarts fully or partly.

For hard water, you will be provided dishwasher salt. It needs to be put in a compartment for the same once every 3 months or so, depending on hardness of water in your area.

There are other additives like rinse aid, which provide a nice sparkle to steel utensils.

Draining - Water is not filled into the dishwasher like a washing machine, but it is sprayed by rotating spray arms and it always drains out, so suppose you open the dishwasher in case of a long power failure, water won't fall out the door, but your dishes/utensils will be watery/soapy depending on the stage of wash.

heavily soiled or dried stains - not entirely, but it softens those stains such that they can be easily removed using a regular plastic mesh and water.

size matters - there is only so much that can go into a dishwasher at a time, so if you want to put in large vessels, you won't be able to put in some others, or you'll have to do multiple washes. We also had to switch to smaller plates with less rim (from those ancient traditional large plates).

since heat is involved, only dishwasher safe plastics or ceramics can be washed. we have washed china without problems.

Thank you guys for coming in & sharing so much of info....I may go for IFB as I am a satisfied owner of its washing machine for past several years.

THank you,
Saket

I am using Siemens for the past one year. ~29K.

The features vary by brands and models. Higher end models will allow restart, multiple water heating options, plate settings etc.

If you are just designing the house, you can plan in such a way that it can be kept under the cabinet (check the height in that case when you purchase). Also, plan where the water inlet and outlet will be.

Update guys:

I brought home an IFB Neptune DX Dishwasher last evening. Set back by 30K.
Ideally wanted to go for Bosch or Siemens but unavailability of the same kept that from happening.
Other options available were Samsung & LG. LG was a strict no-no for me due to some unpleasant past experience after which I vowed not to have any LG product in my home. (my personal opinion, no offence to anyone meant)
Samsung was good. The build quality, at least the exterior looked a tad batter than IFB. Prices were identical. But I believe more flexibility in choosing programs, half-load run, higher capacity, my pleasant experience with IFB washing machine coupled with the pro-activeness of the sales guy made me fall for IFB again. Its a new IFB product (without Bosch) & I am keeping my fingers crossed after reading not too many encouraging comments on IFB.
It is yet to be installed. Will post about the performance after some cycles of usage.

Thanks everyone for coming in to share their bit! Helped a lot.

Saket
