I am new here, i came across this forum when i started reading about TV's. And while i have decided which TV to go for, i have a few queries i would like to ask here.

I have zeroed in on a Panasonic Plasma TV P42ST30. I found this older model in a Panasonic Store in Goa. The Store quoted me 71,000 for this model. When i did a internet search i found that this particular model has been sold much cheaper than this on online store (snapdeal.com it was selling for 60,000 before it went out of stock). I've also read in various forums how people have bought this TV at around 60-63k. I asked the store guy to revise the pricing considering that this was a discontinued model. But he was adamant about the price.

Do you guys feel its worth going for the TV at that Price?? or you feel the store has been unreasonable abt the pricing?

this is the time forum like HFV come in handy. please dont waste this kinda money on two year old plasma.

Do not waste your money. There are better TV's around that price and new models. Check the Telivision related threads here.

What options do i have? I have demoed the UT50, though its a very good TV, i found it too reflective for conditions in my room. I'm Sold out on Plasma, took me lot of time deciding between LED/Plasma, and i don't want to go back. Anyone has any suggestions??

Please check the 2013 Samsung plasma models too.

Dear vitalstatistix (uncle) :),

The ST30 is a 2011 model. I am surprised that some dealer has it in stock still. No doubt the ST30 is a very good plasma TV, but there are many arguments against this particular model, especially in context of today:

- This is most likely a display piece; you certainly don't want that
- It's 3D is the old IR based method and not Universal 3D RF which everyone is moving to
- 3D glasses are heavier and costly; you will have to use Panasonic glasses only
- with 2013 models on the horizon, wait for some time and look at the announcements, in particular from Samsung

p/s. If you are sold on plasma, so be it. But there are good LED models also, albiet costlier.

Yes and newer sammys have one lac viewing hours of life than any other older models/make which have 60000 hours of life.

thanks.

Man, that's daylight robbery, a 2011 model that too 42" being quoted at 71K. At that price 2012 model 50UT50 is available with freebies. Even if you want to buy it and if it is not a demo piece, the maximum one can pay is around 30-35K.

If I would have been you, I will not go beyond 25K.

But frankly, there are many better products from 2012 range and also the new range from 2013 (expected in a month or so) are available. I will advise you to better look for some option within them.

Anyway, it's your money and choice is yours.

About 3 months back a 50ST30 was sold for 69K at Jumbo electronics. It was a display piece.

Bargain hard. Get this for less than 40K. Are you going to get 3 year warranty?

Yes he is offering me a 3 year warranty.

Also while looking for online deals i came across a deal from Infibeam where they were selling the 42ST50 for 76k. Is this worth going for?

Also has anyone got any experience buying a TV from Infibeam. Coz for me relying on them for an amount like this is a bit risky.

Dont even think about buying for that price. Thats too expensive. Instead, you can even buy a 46"sony750 LED Tv for little extra cash or ST50 series or UT50 Series. Don't buy the Panny 30 series as they are most likely to be a display piece.

St50 or st30?

That's a 2011 model. It could most likely be a display piece. Where in Goa are you and which store was it?

I will suggest just go for the infibeam deal if you can't get a piece at the physical store in your area. I think recently someone has bought it and he got a really nicely packed UT50. Just browse through the threads in the television section. So far nobody has reported any big issue with infibeam, but online always carries a bigger risk than a physical store.

I purchased the Panasonic P42UT50 from Infibeam a couple of weeks back and I am very happy with the purchase. Got a brand new piece and I could register the product with Panasonic for 3 years warranty. So, no issues whatsoever.

Infact, I also purchased a Samsung 43" plasma from Ebay a month back and that also went really smooth.

Incidentally, I bought a Samsung Plasma from a local store (before taking the online route) and I received a used (probably demo) piece. From my experience, it looks like the local stores are turning to be unreliable compared to the online stores - especially for plasma TVs which doesn't sell a lot IMO.
