Hello friends,

I am looking to buy a 32" LED TV, hopefully under an exchange offer.

I see significantly lower prices online for the branded models (e.g. flipkart) compared to retail stores.

Any concerns on buying TVs online? I have bought smaller items (including electronic), but not sure about TVs, so would appreciate any feedback/guidance.

Any experience with TVs from Flipkart and their exchange offers?

Thanks!

I do not have experience my own, but I know few of my friends who bought TVs online and they have a very good experience from flipkart (heard that people had some bad experience from snapdeal).

One of my friends, who bought experience some sporadic sound problems with his TV and he returned it within a week. Flipkart took it back without asking any questions. I donot think if he bought from a shop, whether they will take it back without asking so many questions. Also, it is very difficult to convince people on sporadic issues as it is appears only once in a while.

I am also planning to buy online.

Hi

Rates are cheaper online and before making the purchase check carefully if it mentions manufacturers warranty...very important...the product is sometimes way cheaper as 'Sellers Warrant' is mentioned and this kind of warranty is limited for 3-6 months or specifics...be cautious

All the best

i bought a smartphone online once but since it is working fine till now i never had to check into the return policy of these online retailers thankfully, IMO the only drawback in buying stuff online is that you don't get to physically inspect and check the product ordered until it is delivered to you and if something goes wrong the return and replacement is sometimes troublesome, also in case some issue arises at a later stage and you decide to opt for a legal recourse it becomes very difficult to fix liabilities as you have very little info about the seller,do keep that in mind,as a thumb rule i usually avoid making high value purchases online...hope this helps

As far as my knowledge is concerned, goods purchased online can be returned if they are faulty (i.e. say dead on arrival) and companies like flipkart and amazon gives free replacement warranty for dead on arrival goods and generally they take the trouble to pick up from your home. But if the goods become defective after the period of dead on arrival but within warranty, then you have to contact the service centre for repair/ replacement etc.

It is very similar to goods when purchased from real shops.

And the dead on arrival policy varies from company to company and from countries to countries. But all necessary infos are available on their sites.

I purchased a Toshiba LED from Flipkart about a year ago. The TV was delivered in perfect condition. Contacted Toshiba's service center and they sent a tech to do the install. The TV is working fine for two years now with another year to go on the warranty.

I'd recommend that before buying high-value electronics online, check with the manufacturer to make sure they offer warranty for online purchases from the online vendor in question. Many manufacturers have updated their policies in this regard and you usually don't want a situation where you have to depend on the seller for warranty.

Check the warranty and the return policy but everything should be fine. I've not bought online but a couple of people I know did and everything is working fine till date. Everything like the service, warranty is the same as buying from a local shop with the added benefit of online discount.

PS - Stick with Flipkart and Amazon.

My experience with flipkart and amazon has been good. I found a problem with a laptop from flipkart and it was promptly replaced. They are very professional.

Snapdeal has the biggest collection of TVs. No experience with them. I am thinking of ordering one from snapdeal. Check my other thread in this forum.

I bought a 42 inch led tv from flipkart 3 months back and i found no issues. just be careful with the installation guys, who would try to say some nonsense just to sell the AMC for 3 or 5 years.

I bought a 32 inch Toshibha from flipkart about 2 months ago. The overall experience was very pleasing. Also (I am not sure if this is still available) I got to "schedule" the delivery date to a date of my choice. That enabled me to schedule the delivery to a Sunday. The seller was "WS Retail" and they did do a good job of delivering it on time and were courteous.

Packing was good enough for a TV and it was delivered in mint condition. No issues there. Got warranty cards and papers in place. Also, the good thing was flipkart was calling me constantly asking me if the seller is doing a good job; so looked like they were concerned.

TV is good. I like it and have no issues so far. However, I can post an owner's review only after a years of usage to see how it fares. Our older TVs used to run for years together and am not expecting that from the newer ones, but nevertheless, this one should not trouble me for a "reasonable" time is what am hoping.

NOTE: If you intend to buy online, bookmark and watch an item for a few days. The rates on flipkart do fluctuate. For e.g this TV I watched for about 2 months and it was selling between 19000 to 21000. When I clicked the "buy" button, it was selling at 19500. Its almost like equity. :) Buying online will need you do do some homework and also be ready for some heartburn if you keep a purchase pending too much. For e.g I kept waiting on the Harman Kardon soundsticks once and instead of going down, they went up too high at some point.

EDIT: I did not want the exchange offer. So, sorry, no opinion on that part of flipkart.

Good experience with buying a smart phone for my wife from flipkart but they delivered late and after her birthday was over.

I did miss the friendly shop saleaman who would run the buyer through the key functions. We had to discover these for ourselves. Also the warranty card was not stamped so we have maintained the flipkart invoice.

The product is working well and we are happy with it.
