Hi Guys,
I am planning to buy a Stereo integarated amp for music listening, what i can chose between the two from the entry level.
1) Cambridge Audio Topaz AM10- Quote Around 16.5 K
2) Marantz PM5004 - Around 20K

If I chose the Cambridge Audio is it a good bargain. I would be using them with my ELAC BS 53.2 speakers.

Any input would be appreciated.:)

Thanks
Kaushik

Cambridge is always better choice as far as entry level is concerned. To my honest opinion Marantz is just a glorified Denon as they share same parentage

just have an audition with your speakers and trust your ears..
there will be lot of suggestions regarding this and that amp..
No company is bad, which is just doing some business in the audio market..
What matters more is synergy with your speakers of amps connected..

Thank you for the help guys. Will take the speakers with me to check them.

Are the prices quoted economical?

Regards
Kaushik

I've auditioned this amp and found it to be bright to my preference, nonetheless you should demo the product yourself and take a call on it, who knows you may like the sound signature...
IMHO Marantz should be a better match. Where did you get these price quotes from?

Hi Kaushik,
IMHO you should be focusing on speaker and amplifier synergy more than the right "deal" or pricing to select a product. This is the only way you will enjoy your system, so please trust what sounds good to you as a "package" -> speaker+amplifier working together.

Also if you are open to going pre-owned route then there can be some very good options for amplifier in your budget range. Getting a preowned amplifier is not at all a good idea if in good condition and form trusted forum member. You can check the for sale section.

Best of luck!

Thanks guys! I auditioned the marantz today and found a bit soft to my liking. I may be going with cambridge audio AM10. Have another week before I could decide on buying. Keeping my thoughts open for used amp in good condition.

I got the price from one of the dealers in bangalore.

Finally i made my decision and treated myself with the Cambridge Audio AM10 :D. Hooked it up with the ELAC speakers and i found Bass a bit boomy than what i heard in the audition. Probably the Amp should burn few hours and the acoustics in my room not proper i guess. And i also liked the option of an AUX in to connect my smartphone(makes it lot more easy).

Thank you guys for the valuable inputs.:yahoo:

Hi kaushik, Where did you buy in Bangalore. How is the overall performance after sometime ? I have a Norge 2060 but looking to go Cambridge, as I really like the CD10. Want to choose between AM10 or SR10. Let me know please.

The combination of Marrantz and ELAC, I found very good because the bass and HF of ELAC will match with the mid boost of Marrantz and make everything get balanced!
