Hi tx-sr313.jpgtx-sr313.jpgtx-sr313.jpg,

Recently I got the ONKYO TX-RZ830 which is a 9.2 AVR but has 11.2 processing. Now I have it configured for 5.1.4. But I am thinking since I have my old AVR, the ONKYO TX-SR313, can I connect the pre out from my new AVR to the CD/TV in of my old AVR and enjoy 7.1.4 configuration. Off course I have the extra set of speakers. Kindly guide me whether this can be achieved and if yes what are the pros and cons.

Thanking you
Regards

Yes, it can be done.Only thing is you need to adjust sr313 sound as full so that Z830 can be the master volume controller.
One issue is that 2 pre will come into picture. There is nothing harmful as long as per out goes into CD/TV in.

Technically, it can be done. In this forum itself, i have seen members using the old avr for amplification.

There are of course few things to consider.

1. Gain or volume control - since you only require amplification and no volume control, you need to fix the volume on your old avr to a particular value and not change it through out. For best result, you need to keep the volume knob on your old avr at max. If your old avr has an setting for volume level at startup, use that to set it at max level possible and don't change that afterwards.

2. Signal processing - again, since you only need amplification, you have to bypass all signal processing in your old avr. Use pure audio mode or equivalent mode in your old avr. Your new avr will be doing all your processing.

3. Rerun your avr calibration to include the 2 new speakers.

Finally, do note that since you would be setting the old avr to max volume, do not plug any other input in your old avr.

Cheers
Siju

Yes, as others have suggested, it can be done.. But you will need to manage volume control on both AVR, keeping the older AVR volume to 80 or 90% always ans using the Onkyo RZ 830 as master volume control..

Also keep the older AVR on pure direct mode as it will disengage any additional 2nd processing by 313..

Thanks for the quick replies.
I will follow the suggestions given here and will try this out this weekend. I will get back here with the results.
On a side note Dolby Atmos 5.1.4 and DTS-X 5.1.4 is a huge upgrade from the basic 5.1.

I am using my Denon AVR-2113 as power amplifier to front pre out from Marantz NR1608. I have connected front pre out of Marantz to CD in of Denon and it works flawlessly. You may check my post in this regards for procedure.
