Can I use my 2.1 Altec Lansing with 7.1 speakers?

Greetings All,

I have an Altec Lansing 2.1 speaker system for my comp, its crips and I love the bass. I am about to purchase a 7.1, now the question is can I use my existing 2.1 with the new 7.1? Or if I get a HT like say Onkyo for eg, Can I still connect the 2.1s to it? Can I add more speakers or Sub-woofs to power it up???
