CD transport or player or ... ?

A Great example of such a CD Player which can also be used as a very versatile DAC via it's USB input is this:

The Teac VRDS 701T is their CD transport Sir. ( Sadly no SACD ). Their network dac is the 701N, and only singular Dac is the 701D. Teac havent launched a dedicated 7 series master clock yet. So their Teac CG-10M master clock, is expected to be used with their 701T and either the 701D or 701N which have digital inputs. So, one can stitch up the 701T + 701N ( Comes with the Lumin streaming board and Lumin software, though rebranded ) and CG-10M master clock to cover the entire digital spectrum of CD cum steaming, sans SACD.

My PC has failed n I am not comfortable posting via my phone, particularly copy / pasting from one screen to another.... :)

It means the cd player has coax/aes/USB or similar inputs to function as a dac. Most mid-high end players allow this. You may connect this player to a network player or pc to stream music.

The output of this device will be analog that you feed to your amp.
should I get a CEC transport and dac?

Hi

The CEC dac has very few user/reviewer impressions online but mostly positive, don't have any personal experience on the DAC side. The CDT on the other hand has enough online reviews & user impressions & is a well regarded product. Basis of other CDPs I own/owned I feel CEC distinguishes itself very well and certainly has its own sound which adds value by
i) The vocal heft is more in CEC than other ones I have tried, this works in the favor for majority of the genres I listen to. Hindi music sounds sublime, works great with Jazz, country, blues & rock too.
ii) The detail retrieval is quiet good although some other CDPs bettered it comparatively
iii) It leans towards the warmer side of the signature vs other CDPs & hence you will see comments like analog sounding, organic etc. generally.
iv) Musicality is the key advantage (the presentation gels everything together in a very enjoyable manner that you will not necessarily focus on the shortcomings).

For any CDP (not only CEC) I would recommend an audition (if possible a home demo too) as most have their own traits which might or might not work per your expectation. Generally speaking everyone I know who has a CEC is quiet impressed with the same & people who auditioned it also have a similar opinion. Other CDT/CDPs I am referring to here refers to AL6000, Denon A100 & Simaudio Moon Eclipse

@fLUX is the more seasoned audiophile, so it’s really heartening to hear his positive endorsement of CEC transports.
Below is a link to my own (amateur) take on the CEC TL5:

Not an amateur take by any standard ,, very well put @coaltrain . The CEC is indeed one of a kind CDT & if one likes the signature then its a no-brainer. I recently procured a Moon Eclipse which was Simaudio's flagship which by the way is no slouch but the intriguing part is CEC TL5 still holds its own against the same & betters it too in certain aspects.
