ceiling fan selection

No update of this thread for long time.!

I have purchased a couple of atomberg BLDC fans last year. The model I purchased was IKANO and the price then was Rs.6400 for 2 (after discounts). Total 3-year warranty (2 year + 1 year extension once you register the warranty online) for the fan, which is good.

The fans were working very well without any complaints until May 24 when a lightning hit my house and both these fans went dead. A complaint was made through the dealer and technician attended within 24 hours, changed the circuit board and the fans started working.

Since then there is no complaint at all and both the fans are working fine.
Your experience has reinforced my belief that though the BLDC fans appear to be much better option on paper, however they are more prone to malfunctions due to high level of electronics built into them. There's a big question mark on how long they would last after the warranty period.

Yes, that's a big question. Hope in a couple of years the price of the parts (rotor or stator etc.) may come down). Whilst normal fans use anything above 60w current, the bldc fans are built in way to consume low power (max 28W) and over the period of 3 years we will definitely have some saving in current bill.

BLDC motor runs on low current, so can run longer on solar and inverters.

Have been using Atomberg for four years now.
BTW, Atomberg is a start-up by two IIT-B graduates and initially built and tested in IIT-B labs
