Not writing out of nostalgia but the remake looks like they have turned a delightful comedy to unrefined crappy attempt at humor. The old one had theater artists (Deepti Naval, Saeed Jafri, Farooq Shaikh, Rakesh Bedi, Ravi Baswani*) and was directed by Sai Paranjape. A Padma Bhushan award winner who gave us sensitive movies like Sparsh to charmingly entertaining ones like Katha and Chasme Baddor, nice song sung by Yesudas based on ragas. Humor was subtle to hilarious. amusing cameo by Amitabh and Rekha...a nice 'movie'...

...which is replaced by garishly colourful posters and actors, crass humor, silly songs (Dhichkyaon doom doom) with mendatory hip shaking dances. blitzkrieg of marketing and media propoganda, Dull routine interviews of actors. 4 star reviews at the release of the movie.
.... times have changed.

Kahan se aaye

*So many artists in our 100 years of cinema, but no archives or mention of them, they just fade away in time .

Regards.

Yes, there are many examples like this that remake ruined the classics Like Karz - Rishi Kapoor
Karz - Himesh Reshamiya

Sholay - Amitabh - Dharmendra
RGVKA - Ajay Devgan

There are many, I am not sure why makers of these films do that.:sad:

The old Chashme Buddoor was digitally restored and re-released parallel to the crap remake. The old one was a commercial disaster while the new one was a commercial blockbuster.

I hope we get a DVD and Blu Ray disc of the restored version soon

The only option available is the crappy Shemaroo DVD

Here's a link to shots that were posted in a forum called zulm.net

Thanks! I've already seen it many times. (in 1080p) and it looks great!

I highly doubt whether there would a DVD release (forget Blu Ray) :ffs:

Its mislaid, much similar to Hum Dono Rangeen (Dev Anand's Black and White classic was colorized and released in 2011)

There isn't any sign of its DVD. :(

I hope we have them released soon

Agree, there was a hype about "Hum Dono" after "Mughal-E-Azam" release and that time I thought may be from now we will get many hindi movie gems in color. But unfortunately no luck :( even I was not expecting such average earning for SHOLAY 3D. That's why producers are not showing their interests in making Color or 3D versions of some gems.

Personally I feel it would have been better to colorize and 3D-ize the movies only for DVDs and Blu-Rays (only if they don't want their money back).
Unfortunately none of the colorized classics are on Blu Ray disc :(

-----------------------------------

I'm really upset with Sholay 3D booming at the Box - Office.
In fact, when I shared the news that I watched Sholay 3D in school, my friends laughed. :|

When Hum Dono came in color, I had no idea of its release and couldn't watch :(

BTW, the colorization of Mughal and Hum Dono was bad >.<

The former looked painted and fake while the latter still had shades of Black and White visible >.< and both of them were cropped from the original 4:3 ratio (Mughal to 1.50 (10% cropping) and the latter to 2.35:1 (40-50% cropping))

The new (3D) version or the original (1975)
well, I watched the new one in school (a week ago, exactly, 2nd time) ;)

Ha! Ha! Did I mention 3D? I think not. ;) I watched the movie a total of nine times at the cinema. I have the director's cut edition on DVD.

Gr8!! That Eros - B4U version right?? I hate its quality, but since its complete (in terms of Aspect Ratio and The movie itself, I'd say "yes" to it)

The best version (in terms of quality) you may go for is the Carlotta edition. Its not the director's cut, but the most pleasing to the eyes.

It's an Eros, UK release. It is full format (1.33:1). Quality is not very good - telecine transfer. Sound is stereo. But since ours director's cut, it is worth.

Does it have both ( or more) ends of sholay ?? ( Gubber Dead / Caught by police / something else) ??

Yes, EROS UK was director's cut and Gabbar died at the end. We were expecting same version in SHOLAY 3D but again :( Let's hope alternate end and deleted scenes in Blu-ray :)

The only Sholay DVD I have is the latest Pen version which is below average! Nonsensical 5.1 (out of mono) and okayish picture (cropped)

I've also recorded HD telecast (on Zee Cinema) which is the best.
Great PQ & AQ (picture quality and audio quality :D ) progressive and WONDERFULLY RESTORED!!!! Not cropped (slightly from the top & bottom)

The best Sholay quality I've seen. (3D version was pretty blurry and looked somewhat like a painting).

DEi too released it. (surprisingly is DEI's worst job). I don't have it but people in another forum say that it looks unnatural (good sharpness, but grainy video, extra contrast and negligible shadow detail and slightly weak colors)

The sound is buzzing and tearing.

Looking at the DEi screenshots I feel that the PEn version is the same (I may be wrong)
---------------------
Maybe Pen, who holds Sholay rights currently and was involved with Sholay 3D (can't exactly say what), may bring out the 3d version's DVD and Blu ray.
But we may have that huge pen logo on top of the screen which is pretty annoying.

We're going off-topic! Let's continue posting at the Sholay thread (I've put up this same message there). Thanks!!
