DealExtreme: $21.50 Premium USB 2.0 External Sound Card Box with 7.1-Speaker SPDIF Optical Output

So how many people are in for this?
It says it supports Dts and dd passthrough
And has analogue ports too, Awesome for those with laptops!!!
Its just needs a Usb port to work..

Im thinking of using it with my laptop and passing audio to my yet-to-be-bought home theatre with optical in for audio bliss from bluray rips..

So how many are in for it? :P If there are sufficient people, we can have an IC, probably some one who has ordered and received from deal extreme, can order for us and then ship it..

Ps:- this made my night!! :yahoo:

I have used DealExtreme in US. Didn't have any problems. Got the item in time as described and "as priced". Items are shipped from HongKong.
BTW DealExtreme ships worldwide unlike other similar sites. Info here
I have seen India in their list of countries.

Partymonger, I may be spoiling your party, but I am unable to understand the use for this product. All I can see is that it accepts an USB intput and sends out optical and coaxial digital out. This is a simple switch that should be available from a local electronics market for some 300 to 500 Rupees.

If you are looking at HD Audio, I am afraid you are going to be disappointed. This unit cannot handle HD Audio. And since it does not have an HDMI, it will also not be able to handle FullHD video. In any case USB cannot handle either of the two. The unit's claim of a 7.1 seems to be very very tall.

Cheers

Sir, this is a Usb sound card, ones from creative cost min 4k..
My use is just for passing through the audio to the receiver, in my case DTS core from the 720/1080p bluray rips..
Now i have a laptop that is capable of playing hd but has VGA and stereo out(NO OPTICAL). Now this device attaches to the usb and becomes a sound card, and will easily pass audio to the receiver through optical out.
Since im' using this to just PASS the audio with out any intermediate conversion, this device enable my laptop to provide some awesome hd entertainment, saves me the buck i wud spend on a media player too..

Im sure since optical port sends digital signal, there is no issue of quality deteriorating due to this product being cheap..

So for Rs. 1000, my laptop is able to provide very acceptable audio..Of course Optical wont have the bandwidth for HD audio, but it will atleast pass through DTS CORE, which itself is much better than dvds..And enough for those who arent very demanding.

Can you please give details on the switch you mentioned? perhaps a link to the product? i wud love it if i can achieve the same functionality for a third of the cost..

Please read the reviews at the bottom of the links. The unit seems to convert 5.1 into 2 channel stereo. It does not decode Dolby or DTS, and even in pass through, downgrades the sound to two channel. If at all it is a sound card, it must be using an inexpensive solution from Creative or some such company.

I would suggest extreme caution. This is a Chinese product from some unknown company with no backing and no support.

Cheers

I agree its a Chinese product,
Its based on a cmedia chipset, but it does seem to work, those reviews seem to be wrong..

This guy/gal knows his way through, here's the review

its the last review i suppose..

There are a few other with similar functionality, but the ones mentioned in the first post and the above mentioned link(total 3) seem to be the best of the lot..especially the one in this post DealExtreme: $17.16 C-Media CM106 USB 2.0 External Sound Card Box with 7.1-Speaker SPDIF Optical Output

What do you think? good for Rs.900 ?

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
