Looking out for a 42 inch LED or plasma .. One of my relatives are going to China for holidays soon so I thought to buy it from China. It will save atleast 10-15k

Is is good buying from china ?? As many products are made in china

29 views and no reply still.. Actually I am asking exactly w.r.t to HongKong Duty Free shops

TV is an item that could go wrong. You will not get any guarantee on items you get from china / HK. Buy locally with guarantee and have peace of mind. If you are ready to take the risk, I am sure a smuggler can get you the same item at HK prices +5%. Saves you the bother of carrying and all that.

Cheers

In HK duty free shops dont give international warranty ?

you can get international warranty for stuff like digital cameras/laptop etc but never heard in context of TV. anyway with such high xchange rate plus the added % of indian credit card, nowadays not a good time to buy from abroad. Also get from HKG and not from china, although everything is made there , i hardly see much price difference china vs india. HK got good prices probably because no tax there

Yes going to buy from HKG duty free shops only.. As i saw in Sony official website for 40ex650 it costs HK$6980 which comes to ~Rs50000 . I guess it will be around 45k in HKG duty free.. then too the difference is huge . its 20k and also how much custom duty charges are expected ??

lol@ international warranty... never heard of this one before :)

Lol @ you which world are you from? tv's have international warranty. Depends on manufacturers. There are many noobs in this forum

My Neighbor bought samsung TV from Dubai and he gought International warranty on that. for TV more than 40" you have to pay Custom Duty. 32" is free if you carry along with you. He had paid 3000 to officer and avoid custom duty. You have to bargain with them.

Sony TVs have one year international warranty if purchased with bill. The warranty is without any cost

China is a very risky place to buy.. Hongkong is a bit safe place to buy.. But the best places for Indian buyers for TV's is Dubai , Bangkok , Thailand

I would agree with venkatcr. TV is a risky item to buy abroad. For one thing they are bulky and you may end up paying excess baggage. If that is avoided, there is a risk of damage. You should buy shipping damage insurance. Then customs duty and the haggle. Finally no warranty - "International Warranty" is not worth the paper it is printed on.

Buy cameras, AVRs, BD Players, computer components, projectors, small items, etc. Even speakers perhaps. Leave the TV alone. And if you are worried about cost saving, buy from grey market.

I am agreed with 'venkatcr'.....don't take a risk. Buy it here and njoy.

Don't ever think about it. I believe in buying here because I have a bad experience in buying electronics from china.

I have heard about international warranty for laptop, digital camera and mobiles but never heard for television sets. So if you are ready to take that risk, it's your call.....

After reading all the comments and facts, I think buying in India is better than buying abroad specially if its a costly item.
