Choice of TV-model & its type, meant as a gift

Hello everyone!

posting a query here after a long time

a coursemate of mine, who is currently sailing, has expressed his desire to gift a 32"/40" HDTV to one of his relatives a few months from now. the good friend that i am , i decided to shoulder the responsibility of finding out the better ones out there for him, and now off-loading the task to you guys

his budget is 40-45k, extendable to 50k if worth it. he would be disembarking post-3 months from now. so i have taken this fact into consideration too that a few more models could be released in the meantime. i don't have much knowledge on the current lot of good HDTVs available in the market, apart from knowing some no.s like X50, XT50, E5, EH5000, EH5900, etc., hyeah:, and hence seek your kind assistance.

the family for whom the TV is meant is in no way a movie or TV-buff. i thought of suggesting a few models to him to audition in a showroom from each category, ie, plasma, LED-LCD, & LCD. he might disembark at singapore too, in which case i've even suggested to him that he could get one for cheap from there, but this is not yet confirmed. more-or-less its safe to assume that he would be buying the TV from india itself, baroda to be specific.

so, in short, the template, to give you an idea:

Budget - 40-45k, extendable to 50k, but the lesser the better!

Preferences - nothing as such. 3D not a hard-&-fast requirement.

Size-requirement - 32"/40". i have advised him to choose 40"/42" though.

Place of purchase - either singapore, or baroda.

A] Plasma TVs - ??, ??, ??, ??

B] LED-LCD TVs - ??, ??, ??, ??

C] LCD TVs - ??, ??, ??, ??

please let me know if you need some other info. you could just suggest the model no.s and i would do the searching for reviews and feedback, etc.

Plasma TV is heavy and so if importing from Simgapore or wherever, most airlines will not accept is as checked in baggage.

Edit: I did not notice the "sailing" part. So plasma TV is also OK.

As far as plasma vs. LED is concerned, I don't want to get into the debate. Plasma is not everybody's cup of tea. Plasma will yield better picture in light controlled situations while LED is better in more brightly lit rooms. Plasma panel has glass surface will have reflection problems while LCD panel has matte finish and hence less reflective.

i understand about the plasma part. hence have kept other TV-types too as options. will ask my friend what kind of viewing environment his relatives have got, and would then suggest accordingly.
