Hi

Am a newbie on this forum and have been reading all posts on LCD and PLASMAS for the past 2 days , putting aside all official work

I have a very fixed budget of 65k , for which i am getting either the 47LH50 LCD or the 50PQ70 Plasma from CROMA bangalore

I need the gurus here to advice me as to what i should buy

Viewing will be mostly TV with my favourites being sports , wild life and adventure channels and some DVD on weekends

If i look after TIR or burn in during the initial 100hr run in for a PLASMA carefully , is it really worth going for a PLASMA

I want to go for the PLASMA because
1. Viewing is possible at diff angles also
2. I need a BIG tv
3. It has bluetooth where as the LCD model doesnt have it
4. I fell in love with it the moment i saw it on display

Please help guys

I would not suggest Plasma as Plasma would not be FULL HD (1365 x 768p), and the points you have mentioned are all applicable to LCD as well.

1. Viewing is possible at diff angles also : LG 47LH50 is an IPS pannel and so viewing angle is not a problem at all
2. I need a BIG tv : 47" and 50" would not make that a difference
3. It has bluetooth where as the LCD model doesnt have it : LG 47LH70 has bluetooth
4. I fell in love with it the moment i saw it on display : you will fall in love once again when you see LG Scarlet 47LH70

I would suggest 47LH70.......which is what I have as well

My full review and experience can be read HERE

LH50 seems to have better specs and lower price than LH70 model. Can anyone clarify which one is a better model?

I have a 50PQ60. It's the same as PQ70 but for the bluetooth. It has amazing quality, even in 720p. I had got it for 56.5 ks back in december from kolkata. He didnt have the PQ70, so I got the PQ60. I can even watch SD quality DivX rips directly through the USB connection. The design is very pretty, and it's real big. I have loved my TV so far.

I have checked LG web site and found that LH50 has all specs superiro to LH70 except absence of Bluetooth: -

(a) Response time - 2ms in LH50 and 2.4ms in LH70.
(b) No intelligence sensor in LH70.
(c) No cinema 3:2 pull down mode available in LH70.
(d) Audio - 12WX2 in LH50 and 10WX2 in LH70.
(e) No Bluetooth in LH50.
(f) No side connectivity in LH70 (AV In, HDMI In & USB 2.0)
(g) Rear Connectivity - Only one Component In + Audio in LH70 compared to two in LH50. No USB 2.0 in LH50 at the rear.
(g) Power consumption (typical)- 260W in LH50 and 300W in LH70.

thanks for all the suggestions guys
but now am still at a 60-40 decision favouring the 50"PLASMA

can the 50"PLASMA owners kindly advice me more on this

cheers
Ravi

Ask BLASTO ....... he is the 'boss' for this equipment ....

+1 to that...wait till our resident TV guru responds :ohyeah:

pssst...he's going to suggest you to check out Samsung's new range of PDPs :D ...please take his advice. The new range should be in town in a week's time or so...even I'm waiting for the same...

For viewing sports action and wildlife etc. plasma would give you a better experience IMO...

another thing that you might wanna consider is the lighting condition in your viewing area...plasmas perform better in low light conditions. In bright light, you might find them a bit dull...

Sam et al, how much of a viewing difference would it make between a 47 incher and a 50 incher???

Buy BOTH???:)

with the FIFA WC just round the corner hope they have a offer of buy the 50 and get the 47 FREE

The FIFA WC being another main criteria to buying a BIG TV

If you are seriously interested in PQ then do have a look at Samsung and Panasonic plasmas. go for practicality. do you think bluetooth, usb is 'a must have' feature. guys going for 50' screen would definitely complete the setup with a decent avr setup or a home theater. connectivity options if at all matters, then it should be HDMI. its my opinion. BTW i have samsung 50 b450 and i'm fully satisfied with it.

amen!

In face I had LG 50PQ30 on my list for precisely that reason...don't really need USB ro Bluetooth on my TV...

I am also waiting for Samsung 2010 plasmas. I will choose between Samsung 50C550 or LG 47LH50.

First of all avoid croma. You can get the 50PQ70 for 59k elsewhere. Call the "LG Best" exclusive showrooms in Bangalore for best prices. (Google it)
Second, New LG 2010 PJ series plasmas are out and I had a casual look at them in hyderabad last weekend when I was out to purchase an A/C. These TVs are cheaper and get rave reviews though I haven't personally auditioned them enough to give a review.
Refer http://www.amazon.com/LG-42PJ350-42...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1272995516&sr=8-2
If you fell in love with PQ70, You will die to take one of the PJs home. I saw it and it was full glass screen with just 1/2" frame on the sides and top and wafer thin.

Avoid 50PQ70 even at that 59k.
If you are considering only the above mentioned models, get the 47LH50 and call it a day. Seriously.
When selecting LG plasma/LCD, keep in mind that the bluetooth and USB are jimmics. You cannot alter the picture settings in the USB mode and that one reason is enough for me to stop thinking about the LG USB attached TVs. Getting a USB less TV and a USB media player like WDTV is a far wiser decision.

Also, If the PJs are not out in bangalore, wait for a week to 10 days, though I personally think they are already out in bangalore given that they are on display in hyderabad (Bajaj electronics punjakutta).

Now if you are open to other better options in 65k cap, read on.

Samsung released the 50C450 and the current mumbai street price is 55k. This one + WDTV player itself comes to 62k.
If you are particular about owning a 1080p plasma TV, consider 50C550 which will retail around 65k - 67k (I guess).

With my current experience with B450 plasma, I assume, these will be further improved. These are miles ahead of LG plasmas. Better in all departments including IR resistance, Black level, Colour reproduction etc. (LG plasma scores with excellent menu navigation, better sound, features, USB, Bluetooth etc)

I have my reservation against the PJ's PQ too as there is only so much a company can improve on in a year's timeframe.

In 47" LCD, You can consider Samsung 47B550 in your price range. This will be equivalent to LH50 or better only marginally. (Not like in case of plasmas).

47" vs 50" does make a visible and enjoyable difference. 50" TV is 100+ sq inches bigger in screen area though the diagonal is only 3" more.
Checkout http://www.displaywars.com/47-inch-16x9-vs-50-inch-16x9 for measurements.
