Converting LCD into Smart LCD

Are you asking me?

In my last post, there was a typo:

>>>2. You need Raspberry Pi and your Media Player (I use WD My Book Live as my network drive). Both these should be connected to your router.

Should be read as

2. You need Raspberry Pi and your media (I use WD My Book Live as my network drive). Both these should be connected to your router.

Note: In this case Raspberry Pi *IS* acting as your media player.

Hi,

I should be able to connect Resp via wifi to my network

My distance is far for TV to router so I need to connect Resp to TV and Resp to router over wifi

So I should be able to view content on TV through RESP from himedia player rite !

Cheers

Hi,

RPI does not have inbuilt WiFi adapter. You have to buy one separately. You also need to check compatibility of the adapter RPi USB Wi-Fi Adapters - eLinux.org

Raspberry to TV is connected via HDMI. They don't talk to each other through any other means.

I don't know what is 'himedia player', but if it is like WD Player, then actually with the setup that I am proposing, you do NOT need to use that device at all.

Where are the movies/ videos stored? I mean the hard disk which contains all the media.
RPI needs to be able to reach out to the media files via 1. USB directly OR 2. Via Network (SMB/ NFS).

Hi,

Himedia is a network based media player, all my content resides on this and I will have to access the content from here.

As said in my initial post this is my primary device for my HT I am looking for another solution to access this content on another TV which is not smart and not on network.

My only requirement is how to access content from media player to another TV which is 32" lcd no LAN and no WIFI

Since all your content resides on Himedia media player, unless himedia acts as a media server which i believe it does not, you may not be able to share the content on the other tv.
What you need is a centralized media server (like NAS or shared drive) from which both you media player and the 32" inch tv connected to some kind of media player (like blu ray player with dlna, raspberry pi) can access the content.

Hi Ethen,

My himedia player acts as a server too and it's on my network and accessible by my laptop and panny plasma, my networks consists of my amp, media player, Apple TV, Sony bluray and others.

I have another lg lcd which is not smart TV and not on network.

I need some device which I can connect to this lcd tv and may be that device be connected to my network via wifi or lan and as it gets on home network i should be able to access content from himedia player.

I guess resp will do the job but not getting confident based on replies am getting

Ok. I understand now what you are trying to achieve.

Raspberry Pi typically needs to see a SMB or NFS share on the network. If it can find that on your HiMedia, you will be fine. Else it may not be the right solution.

So, you will have to research on how to share folders via SMB/ NFS on your HiMedia.
