Hi all
Am very new to this terms ,can anyone help me to set the crossover and level for the speakers and subwoofer .
1)what this crossover do in a Amp/Spk( pl in lame man words.
2)individual selection is best or all together
If individual what has to be the right?
My amp shows after audyssey as front-40Hz
Center-110,surround -80,surr.back-150Hz.
3) after audyssey the level goes in minus but when manually I set to +5,6,7 the volume is low compared to audyssey settings
And
When to perform the audyssey after fixing all crossover ,levels, regarding subwoofer what should be the Hz in amp and in the woofer unit also the volume of the sub before audyssey
Can we change the subs Hz,volume ,levels after audyssey
Thanks to all great music lovers

Hi

Audyssey sometimes can do errors in calculation due to the room and things we have in it...the best is to trust your ears and adjust the levels for each speaker.....center speaker should be kept more as all movie dialogues come from there...subwoofer depending on where it is placed, you should adjust the levels so that you get optimal bass for movies and music...

In terms of bass management, depending on what your front or main speakers can handle, all frequencies lesser should be sent to the subwoofer so that there is a natural blend of between the speakers and subwoofer....avoid it sounding too booming or muddy.

Based on the details you have shared, it seems you are using a 7.1 setup.....i would suggest to read the manual carefully to understand the best way to tweak settings on the AVR and also understand your speakers as in what frequencies they can handle...once you know all this, play around with adjustments...patience is a virtue....do things carefully by the book, nothing can go wrong....i am sure you will get it right....

All the best

@You can keep the crossover as 80 to all except for surround back if it's a satellite - provided you have a decent sub

Hi,

Its important to understand that sound is a combination of various frequencies. With that understanding lets differentiate between Centre Speaker, Satellites and Sub Woofer. Centre speaker is designed to produce vocals perfectly, Sub woofer for the low frequencies, say 80hz and below.

1. Crossover point is the frequency below which all frequencies are sent to the SubWoofer.

Every speaker would come with a frequency range rating mentioned in its manual or on a sticker near the connecting ports. For example, my speaker has it mentioned 'Frequency response: 43Hz-25kHz'. So theoretically this speaker can be crossed over at any frequency above 40hz. But I have my crossover set at 90hz for this speaker. All frequencies below 90hz go to my subwoofer as my subwoofer is designed to handle those frequencies better. Low frequencies need more power to be produced, all the more reason to send them to the sub which has a dedicated amp, in turn freeing up the receiver to focus on other frequencies and processing.

2. If you have same brand and model speakers all around, you could use the 'All' feature since all speakers would have the same frequency response rating, else use the individual option obeying the frequency response rating of each of your speakers.

3. Audyssey is an excellent 'starting' point. Its not perfect, but good enough to start with and is always recommended. It will set your levels, crossover, distance, etc. After you have run the Audyssey, check the speaker configuration, if front are set as Large, change that to small. All frequencies are sent to Large Speakers, which we do not want. Next, check the cross over and set it to 80 or 90hz or higher as per your liking. You can leave the rest of the speakers settings unchanged, unless they are way off the charts. Once you have a better understanding of your speakers, receiver and the kind of sound you want in your room, you could start tweaking the settings such as increasing the Center channel level so that the vocals are always louder than all other speakers, tweaking the cross over settings, tweaking the controls at the back of your sub, etc.

Its an amazing journey in search of that perfect sound, and best part, its never ending.

Hello to all,
After audyssey I manually changed the following and observed these
1)large-small:fine
2)front spks level,-3.5 to +3.0
Found; the amp gets heated
Treble little bit high
More details from different instruments.

Woofer;-6.5 to 2.5 level
Bass booming sound
Now after these changes I found more treble, details which is fine
But I lack the punch
and
Before I was able to hear hours together without any stain (unable to explain clearly)

Hope senior FMs will help me,guide and suggest.
Amp-denon 3100
Spks- Dali zensor3

Please go through all the links in the audyssey site. Quite a lot of information there. All level setting are relative. If audyssey set -3 or +5 it does not matter as long as it is in the range. Increasing setting drastically will not help.

My reference is always to pure direct mode. I make my changes from there for music.

Basic settings, 80 hz, all speakers set to small, lfe to 120. Customize from thesse settings to your liking.

Hi

Would suggest some cooling fans to be placed on the AVR / AMP....especially if the same is kept in a music cabinet..../ shelf....

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
