It will be 42% if imported through a company with import export code or 75% if imported as an individual

42 or 75% will be of the declared customs value of the goods plus shipping

I have imported few speakers with out IEC. I have been charged 42% on the purchase value.

Some carrier collect 70% from buyer or consignee. But what they pay to customs is different. May be nothing some times or 42%

If Commercial invoice include shipping charge, customs duty is charged on whole invoice value, about 42-43%.
Ideally they should not change on shipping. Don’t know carrier may make some gap for them.

Customs duty is calculated on Declared value or CIF value (Cost Insurance Freight ) which is 42.08 %
i.e HS Code 9804 - Hs Codes of dutiable articles intended personal use.

It depends on many things..

If you have opted for EMS International parcel shipping, you can expect a duty of about 42-46 % on CIF value ( Cost + insurance + freight ). Your package will be cleared and delivered by India post, they will collect the charged custom duty from you at the time of delivery.

If you opt for DHL, Fedex or UPS they usually will charge you more than 42-46% plus a clearance fee of about 1000 INR,
Their practices and charges are opaque, they won't share details and basis of custom value.

In one case my parcel was about CIF 280 USD. They demanded that I pay duty calculated on assessed value of 580 USD, mind you I didn't under price the item. It was declared at actual value.

I demanded proof or basis of this assessed value, they didn't give any and finally I consulted one of my relatives who was a Superintendent of customs. He told to pay the money and cut my losses, as the parcels are kept in very bad hold storage area and there's too much mishandling.

Also to present my case I had to appear in person in front of Mumbai customs commissioner. So I paid the double duty and got my parcel.

After that I always try to get my items from EMS.

Never had issues in last 10 or so parcels. Always about 42-46 % duty on CIF.

ok thnx a ton for this but how do i contact ems? If i import thing it will arrive in delhi i guess to customs department.

My experience with importing astronomy related stuff:
1. Total value of purchase (including shipping) is used to calculate the customs
2. Shipping with courier (DHL, FedEx) - You end up paying 1.5-1.7x the total value. Courier company add their charges for clearing customs
3. EMS/Regular post - If it is for personal use and depending on officer clearing it - if it is below ₹15k you *might* get the parcel delivered with no customs duty. Otherwise, it will be around 1.4-1.5x of total value.

The whole process is very opaque and everytime you will have a different experience.

At the time of checkout from where ever you are buying the item from, you will get shipping options.

You are usually asked for preferred shipper, there you can choose EMS there.
