Hi all, my TV has developed a problem, big dark patches have appeared on the screen. I don't know a lot about it except they are a permanent fixture (on every input) and are worse on certain colours making doing thing like playing games impossible. In addition to this images have begun to burn into the screen in a very short amount of time.

I have attached some images of the problem with the TV settings adjusted to exaggerate the problem, any information anyone can give me is very much appreciated.

Thanks

My TV is about a year and a half old I don't know about a warranty. I dont have the receipt and no breakdown cover from the store, could it have a manufactures warranty?
I think this is the exact TV like I said I got it last year but this is the same shop, spec and price

Thanks for any help

I don't see about warranty on that Argos page but I would say that it came with 1-year warranty and that's over. Check with Argos and see what they suggests. It might be the A-board.

I have had similar problem with my Sony Bravia. Sony replaced the LCD panel after i made some noise. :). Just paid for the transportation cost.

Hello Mark,

Sorry for being the harbinger of bad new, however, I feel it is the panel.

I doubt whether it is the A-Board or the T-con board or any other board. Best would be to find out what kind of warranty coverage you have with Argo and do search for the sales receipt.

If it is the panel, it might be as it is usually about 70-80% cost of a new TV. If you end up paying for it, it might be a wiser call to buy a new one which has got a larger extended warranty depending on what you get in the UK.

With the hope that this post of mine helps.

Thanks for the quick reply's everyone, I guess it is as I thought and this is a massive fix. The TV was only 200 pounds so it proberly is not worth the cost of repair:sad:

It is just a shame as the TV is reletivly new and it was a great bargain that was to good to be true I guess.

A word of advice to anyone who reads this - DONT BUY ThESE CHEAP DISPLAYS THEY SUCK, wait and save another 100 or so and buy a Sony or LG or Samsung etc, its worth the extra cost.

Hello Mark,

It is not only the cheap panels which go kaput, but also expensive ones. This forum is full of Sony's, Panasonic's, Samsung's, LG's etc all going wrong. It does not matter how many pounds you pay for it, but panels have and will always go wrong. At least out here in India, Samsung is offering 3 year warranties on some of their panels. Panasonic used to but not anymore.

Buy any TV, where you are offered at least 3 years warranty off the box and IMPORTANTLY IT SHOULD INCLUDE THE PANEL. It would be preferable not to buy an extended warranty separately if possible, as often the cost offset is too much. This should keep you safe for at least 3 years.

By that time, depreciation kicks in and there is less of a risk anyway.

I am sure there will be plenty of companies out there in UK who do offer such warranties.

Look for new year sales now, that should get you going.

If the tint is green, red, purple or blue, it is because of the over use of excess heating of the screen which again sums it to over use.
It gets worse with time and may result in a blackout.
