I have almost decided to go for Quad 11L Classic and Marantz PM 5004.
Any other suggestions on Amp?
Budget is 60k.
TIA

I am also looking for amp. In Mumbai I got the quote of Rs.18000 for PM5004 w/o B&W.

I was interested in Yamaha A-S500 which has good review. I got a quote of Rs.23000 for the same w/o B&W.

I am yet to audition both.

hi,
Recently saw yam as500 at 25k in panjim,goa. The person usually gives discount on quoted cost and his deal is with bill.

@musicmaya
I heard absolutely no difference with PM7004, also it will push my budget over 60k
This might be with your ears (which is relative)... but more importantly with the speakers in question. The speakers might not be a heavy load.

What about ability to handle higher peak loads? Not all amps can handle any and every speakers. The main reason why the amp is more expensive than 5004

when people speak of amps having a signature this is what they basically mean. When you consider a high end amp with quality components in it, each amp as you go higher in price has a better ability to drive speakers. Some speakers require more current than some other speakers. It is the current which eventually drive the speakers. So if you play a more demanding speaker with a less capable amp it is going to sound different in two ways. One the speaker then the amp which is less capable.
If you play a more demanding speaker with an appropriate amp which can handle this load then it will sound different compared to before. People misinterpret this with amps having different signatures. Reality is that the speakers are the reason. This should be coupled with a amp with the right capacity. The speaker can be analyzed through the impedance-phase response.

The Quads are very good speakers, Congrats for the purchase. But it needs some serious amplifier. A Marantz 5004 will not do any justice for the Quads. If you are ok with second hand look out for Cyrus, Exposure, Arcam which will be a better match for the Quads.

I have had Qyad 11l with a Audiolab 8000A and they were perfect. Kittu (our member) has a Audiolap 8000A for sale, PM him and see if you can get that. Its an excellent combo IMO
