Demo of Sharp 32L465M..an eye opener....Sony, Samsung pale in front of it

The moment an analog signal like video is converted to a digital format using an analog to digital converer data is invariably lost.
Now discrete pieces have to be converted to frames and displayed.
Poor flat panels! They have to smoothen the inter frame gaps and should also adjust to dynamic changes in frames. They should also make it look natural.

See the plight of the fixed pixel displays! !!

Yes, digital technology results in loss of signal. But if everything had to be analogue, data could have never been represented with ease and thus compressed effectively nor could have transmission of HD signals been so efficient. It's digital technology that gave rise to the concept of compression.

If it were only analogue and no digital, even (digital) Casio watches would have shown time on CRT displays mounted on wrists and Samsung Galaxy might have been bigger than subwoofer boxes !

Digital technology does not suffer from signal loss. In fact, digital signals are nearly immune to signal loss (within tolerable distance), immune to noise, etc. It is A=>D conversion that results into loss.

+1.
Its only from Analog to Digital that there will be a significant loss .

In DTH which have HD stb with HDMI the signal is mostly digital right from channel provider uplink to the final downlink to your STB.But we still get crappy quality because of the heavy compression used by DTH companies and in some cases poor upscaler and De-interlacer built in to those cheap STBs.

The problem is - Few have extreme obsession with a particular brand and naturally they will awalys see negatives of other brands.
People do talk great about ST50/GT50, HX950, E8000 and I am not seeing anything wrong in that, but there are equally good performing models from other brands like Philips (at higher ends). The point I am making is that extreme obsession with one brand makes people blind in seeing greatness in other brands. For example, when people talk about black level performance, they never mention about Philips high LED models (9 series) which look like offering superior black levels among any LEDs (only problem is they are not marketed well like other brands).

I totally agree with you on the quality of Philips LED TVs. I saw 42PFL7977, a 42" 3D model of Philips and I was amazed. I cannot comment on its black levels but its color reproduction and motion was simply superb. What stood out was that unlike LG, Sony & Samsung, it had very natural color reproduction : probably the most natural colors that I've seen on an LED TV yet.Another model that fascinated me was Sharp LED 39LE440M. Its finishing and image quality was terrific and color reproduction was on par with or better than that of Samsung & Sony.

You're spot on when you said The point I am making is that extreme obsession with one brand makes people blind in seeing greatness in other brands. People at least in India think only Sony, LG and Samsung make 'high quality' TVs. They need to widen their vision.

Yes, people can look beyond the regular brands, but the problem with brands like Sharp, Philips, etc., haven't tried to reach out to the customers in India. Even if you look at Panasonic, they have some of the best plasmas and still they haven't made the required effort to establish their brand name in India.

Maybe not Sharp's but Philips TVs were selling very well in India along with other brands like Videocon, Dyanora, Binatone, Bush, Crown, Solidaire .... a few to say before globalization happened in the mid-90s. Philips which is probably the only surviving brand out of these is totally forgotten by customers. I just want to say they still make wonderful products such as iron-boxes, MP3 Players, radios, headphones, TVs etc unlike how people perceive them.

Even if you look at Panasonic, they have some of the best plasmas and still they haven't made the required effort to establish their brand name in India.

Panasonic make the best TVs and have a decent market share if not on par with Sony or LG. Their service network is pretty good too. So is that of Philips thanks to Videocon.

When I was looking at buying a TV with the best PQ, the brand that came to my mind was Panasonic and I know that within my social circle, I am not alone. Like other brands they don't have to advertise every day in the newspapers to catch the attention of people.
