I have the following setup
- Denon 1612 AVR
- Paradigm CT 70 (5.1 setup)

A problem that I have noticed specially with BluRay rips .mkv files is that the speech/voice is very low and almost inaudible when characters are whispering. At the same time, when the movie has special effects like explosions its way too loud. I have to keep reaching for the remote every time to increase and decrease volume due to this variation.

After reading through a few forums I understand that Denon has Audyssey settings - DRC and D.Comp, which help in normalizing the levels between speech and effects.

Can someone please advice on what is the preferred settings to reduce this variation in volume using Audyssey.

Set Dynamic Volume OFF and try.

Audyssey - ON
Dynamic EQ - ON
Dynamic Volume - OFF

Did you try audessey auto setup? If not run it. Also try dynamic volume like 'Evening' or 'Day'. You could also increase the gain of the center channel.

I dont see any options for Dyn. Volume or DRC.
Does this option come only when I am actually playing a movie which is Dolby TruHD?

You can find this information in Owners Manuel Page number - 54 & 55.

For uncompressed sources dynamic volume in not effective and you may need to keep it OFF. In addition dynamic volume increases the boominess of SubWoofer

From Denon Manual >>>>>>
Dynamic Volume Solve the problem of large variations in volume level between TV, movies and other content (between quiet passages and loud passages, tc.) by automatically adjusting to the users preferred volume

Midnight : Most adjustment to softest and loudest sounds.
Evening : Medium adjustment to loudest and softest sound.
Day : Least adjustment to loudest and softest sounds.
OFF : Do not use Dynamic Volume.

Yes. I referred to the same manual pg. 55.
From that page I only see "Mode" and "Cinema EQ" options.

I don't even see DRC or D. Comp.
