Difference between OPPO BDP-80 and 83

I would like to know the basic diffrence between OPPO BDP-80 and 83. Is it worth to spend $200 extra on 83?

OPPO BDP-80 Blu-ray Disc Player - Comparison

for a comparison. RE: your choice you need to do 2 things:

1. Search on the forum to understand the best option for your needs
2. Explain a lot more about your applications so we can suggest.

Thanks marsilians for the quick response. I went through the various threads for OPP 80 and 83. Initially I was planning for Pannasonic BD-60 and after seeing the review of OPPO BD player I changed my mind. Now I am confused between OPPO 80 and 83. The features which made me inclined towards OPPO is better PQ and SQ. If I invest in a better blue player then I can avoid dedicated CDP for music.

Now the question which one to go for better SQ 80 or 83?

A universal player is not ideal for playing music. If you are serious, you should look at a CD Player. As has been mentioned many times before, even a inexpensive CDP from companies such as Marantz, CA, etc would be better than an universal player.

The difference between Oppo's 80 and 83 are in two areas. One; the 83 has a much better circuitry for audio. Second; the 83 has a class leading scaling engine for DVDs. So if you have a large set of DVDs, the 83 will serve you better. For Blu-Ray as such, either will suffice.

Cheers

Blu Ray is for movies and has nothing to do with audio. Yes Oppo can play regular and HD audio well but it depends on your source and other components. Bad recordings willl nullify Oppo or anyother CDP for sure.

My budget is around $300 and I mainly listens to Indian classicals, Ghazals, Devotionals and Old and new hindi movie songs.

With that budget you can only get BDP 80. I say stick to it for now. It wont be replaced anytime soon even when you upgrade down the road.

The BD-80 will cost around $315.00 from US if you know somebody who can pick it up for you. Else pay shipping and 20% customs for importing. People have imported on this forum paying only 2 to 3K customs.

If you want to focus on musical ability, try picking the CD5001 somebody was selling on the forum. You can buy a loca sony or Samsung or Onida l BD player later when budget permits.

Cheers
