Thanks that was what I was looking for. So basically in the marantz, I am right, direct modes still engage the sub.

As long as Sub is set to Yes in speaker configuration, it will play irrespective of mode. However, in stereo mode, the sub will enjoy Audyssey effect. In other modes it will be like a sub hooked to a stereo amp.

Your 6009 demands a Sunday full of experiments [emoji2].

Haha yes true but I'm only bloody experimenting and not watching anything! I thinks it's a real stupid thing what marantz has done. In pure modes turn everything off just keep two fronts on shud be the solution, else it's a dumb button on the remote.

There must be something wrong with your settings. With my Marantz 7010, in direct and pure direct mode, sub is dead silent. I increased the volume levels to reference levels but still no sound from the sub.

And it take a single press of a button on the remote to engage different modes.

Its a receiver and designed for Multi Channel with all processing going all guns.
In the end, its you who will decide what sounds best to you. Getting the setup right needs time and a lot of experimentation, tweaking, understanding of the system. Fix an appointment this sunday along with a couple of mugs if you are not flying :ohyeah:

Ssf, there is a link I posted on the first or second page. Go through that. Also google the same and it throws up the same thing. Maybe it's receiver to receiver some differences.

ssf has Marantz SR 7010, which is next year model to your SR 6009.. If 7010 could do that, then SR 6009 should be able to do it..

Hope you have connected the sub to AVR thru LFE out

Yes it's connected through LFE to AVR. It's not only me who faces this. A quick google shows up lots of others facing the same issue.

Ok this is what happens.

If the front speakers are set to large and if the lfe settings are lfe+main, then in Direct or pure direct mode, there is a bit of a leak into the sub. Just a tad. Not like the sub is playing in other modes.

I had to touch the sub driver to confirm and this at -10 db

Yeah that can be done, but I thought the point of having a direct mode is to eliminate the sub and just give pure unmixed signal to the fronts. If I have to press so many buttons on the remote each time I change between movies and music, what's the point of the pure direct button on the remote.

If the Marantz keeps engaging the sub by default even in Direct mode, then instead of fiddling with so many buttons on the AVR remote, turning down the sub volume to zero may be less of a chore?

Aren't u NOT supposed to do that once u have setup the speakers with audyssey?

Don't know....haven't done HT in a long while. But if Audyssey sets up the speakers to act in conjunction with the sub even in Direct mode, then maybe you need them to work together.

Can't you try turning the sub volume down while listening to stereo to see if it sounds better to your ears? You can always revert to the earlier knob position if it doesn't.

@ssf, what u said is right, in pure modes there is a leak into the sub. I can feel the sub playing but not a 100%, but it still plays in a milder form.

I thought the thread from AVS forums was abt Marantz Pre + Pro having the issue..

No Elango, the first line itself says in all marantz receivers AND Pre+pro. It's explained quite well in that thread actually. I guess I just have to live with that now :-) it's actually not a big deal.

For music, just set sub to no and fronts to large or you could just let things be and enjoy the deeper bass. Switching to pure direct is simpler than all other solutions. A bit of an inconvenience but it's small compared to everything else we do with our setups [emoji16]

On my Denon AVR , I have set sub on LFE mode and set front speakers large. While stereo listening sub doesn't work and only front speakers gives output.
