DIY Speaker stands

I recently purchased a pair of energy veritas 2.2i speakers from a FM. After my wife reclaimed the two armchairs the speakers were sitting on, I was forced to make a pair of speaker stands.
Fairly simple design with bottom and top plates. The wood is primarily for aesthetic purposes, and also because I happened to have it lying around. Resting on spikes, though I know they aren't needed for tiled floors. Maybe I'll put a couple of mats underneath.

Very Artistic. The placement looks very risky just near the stairs.
