In Dubai you get all TV's for half the price here, so its convenient to get a 40 inch LCD or LED. I think you can get a 40 LED TV for 25-30k. But difficulty is in carrying it and bringing it here. Also have invoice ready and convince customs to put duties on the price in dubai and not equivalent cost here :-)

Hi,

If your friend is travelling by Emirates then carrying 42 inch tv is possible, however the weight has to be less that the 30kg limit per passenger else excess baggage is chargeable .
As for retail shops try

Jackys Samsung, LG

Jumbo Electronics Sony, Panasonic

Sharaf DG All Brands (prices are the best I have seen)

Places to buy mall of the Emirates and Dubai Mall has metro access to emirates terminal in airport makes sense to take delivery on the day you are planning to leave dubai.

All the above dealers have showrooms in most of the malls.
For Denon or Marantz audio products VV Sons are the distributors, their warehouse is in Deira. Take bus/taxi from Deira Metro station to Hamrain center. Opposite to Hamrain center is Hyundai showroom behind Hyundai showroom is VV sons.

As for duty customs have their own price list for all the models, as the above member said negotiate with the customs personel to charge you on the dubai rate.

Cheers

Charan

Hi
I bought a 40" Samsung LCD TV from Jumbo Electronics cost 28000/- Mumbai duty 1500/- same TV here cost around 48000/-
Most of the TV's on sale are the new 3D TV's.
carrying is a problem but you can get it film wrapped at Dubai airport for 15 dhs

Sony3D capable 40" LED are priced at 3999DHS or less. So best buy is same depending on your room size. Thru chennai customs charges will be upto 5K.

If flying thru emirates upto 55" LED is allowed as check-in piece provided you dont have any other checkin luggage. SURE:)

I recently got an LCD TV from Singapore. I also had been to a few electronics places mentioned above in Dubai. Yes TVs are mighty cheap there and it is the only thing today worth getting in.
If weight is not an issue, you would save quite a lot of money.
I got a good deal in singapore and the price of 42inch LG LCD was less than import limit in india. Customs did not charge me even a dime. They believed the bill that I produced. I also had kept the card payment receipt handy just in case they refuse to believe the bill but it wasn't required.
So go ahead and enjoy.

Hi, is there a way to buy the TV in airport duty free shop instead of going out.

Is it more expensive to do so, when would be the price difference.

If I buy in Duty free shops will they be able to pack and send to baggage without me having to check in the luggage? I will be in business class and will not have much to carry on my travel from SFO to MAA.

I guess the prices will be same outside the airport but you may miss out on any offers. Also i would not advise you to purchase a tv without testing it! There might be some dead pixels or clouding issues etc which you cant resolve once you leave the airport!! No international warranty!
So its best if you buy outside and test it.

My aunt had a bad experience so though i would give u a head up!
