Hi, I am new here and I just need to ask some advice if that's okay.

I have had a panasonic tv for a while now with a dvd recorder hooked up to it via an HDMI cable and all was fine. I've upgraded to a blu ray player/dvd recorder DME PWT520 and although it seems to work fine when the player starts to record the tv screen goes black. You have to turn the tv off and on again to be able to watch it.

In simple terms I guess the dvd player is dominating or over ruling the tv somehow. I am sure there is a simple cure but I've been through the manual until I am boggle eyed and I simply can't find it. If anyone could advise me how to stop this, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks in advance :)

Sounds like hdmi handshake issue. May be you can use hdmi splitter to split the signal between TV and recorder from the source.

Thanks for your help, it's just one cable though which connects the tv to the blu ray player, I can't see how or why I could split it. Sorry if that sounds dumb, I'm really not good with stuff like this.

I thought you were using the bdp for recording TV shows. So you have connected TV to BDP using HDMI cable and when the bdp starts playback, the TV screen goes blank, right? This is commonly known as hdmi handshake issue. The only thing you can do is to turn on the bdp first followed by TV.
