Another question for you guys.
I am sure that you will provide the solution, or at least figure out the problem :)

As mentioned in title, i am connecting my Pioneer DV-220KV to HTS 3300 through HDMI cable. And HDMI out of HT system to Dell 17" TFT monitor using HDMI - DVI cable. I could see the video on monitor, but it is weird , something like completely faded, little colour added to negative picture..

But, if i connect HDMI out of DVD player to Monitor directly using HDMI-DVI cable, everything is fine, video is perfect.

In both the cases, my DVD player shows video out as 480p. And i could not find any control on PC Monitor, DVD Player or HT to play around with resolutions, to check if it can solve the issue.

Video went bad when HT is present in between, so i think adjustment has to be done on HT only, but where!

hts 3300 doesnot control video over hdmi..it simply passes thru it.
it is a issue may be the hdmi board of 3300 got some problem...or may be the hdmi ports develeoped a prolem....
best wud be if you could try a monitor with hdmi in....may be the hdmi to dvi is a culprit while 3300 is in chain....

you dont worrry as dvd have dd or dts only...so audio over optical or coax is the solution...no hdmi is requred...to carry them,so connect hdmi to minitor, and use optical coax from dvd vplayer into 3300............if anyway the prolme is unsolved...

Thanks Prosenjit for your prompt reply.

You have provided immediate alternate solution. As suggested, I used coaxial b/w HT and DVD player, and HDMI-DVI b/w Monitor and DVD player.
It works.

I have two questions here.
1. My DVD player supports mostly .avi format only. I have some .avi rips of 720p. When i play that using usb, player says unsupported resolution.
But spec says, this player supports 1080p also.
(Pioneer DV-220KV - Specifications)
So it should downgrade that 720p to 480p (player once i turn on, going to 480p as it has my monitor connected powered on)

2. Monitor native resolution on its setting says 720 * 480, so it is 480p right.
But when i connect laptop to Monitor using HDMI-DVI cable, it shows everything my laptop shows. So it plays even 1080p video that is played on my lappy.
Any idea here, as to figure out the problem/solution?

Thanks guys..

I don't see any settings to change the resolution on my dvd player, and i read on some link, that HDMI->DVI cable sends info about resolution of TV/Monitor to DVD player, and player sets accordingly.

Actually i am supposed to buy a plasma ( sammy 43e490 , 40K babaj electronics, 45K (including 2yr extended warranty from reliance digital) OR LG 42 PA4520 for 34K). Also i am slightly inclined towards Projector to have a peace of mind over the reliability issues that these HD TVs have, as my primary usage is watching HD movies on weekends.
At some corner of my mind, i feel to wait for clearance sale :-)

Mean while, i thought i will give a try with existing components i have, to keep the system running.

As far as I can say DVD players can not render 720p avi files (it can only upscale 480 or lower signal to 720p or to 1080p.) It will not handle 720p.
You need a media / bluray player to read the HD files.

This is because of difference in color space between HT-S3300 and Dell monitor.
Dell monitors generally have a setting something as follows:
Menu --> Color Settings --> Input Color Format
Change it from RGB to YPbPr or vice versa. That should fix the problem.
