Guys,

I have almost finalized to buy the Energy take Classic 5.1 HT system from the US and get it shipped here. All i want to know is whether i will require a step down transformer to make it work here?

And, has anybody had any experience with PPOBOX.com for getting products shipped from US to India? If yes, what would be the approximate cost of shipping? A rough idea should be fine.

Thanks,
Gokul

Isnt ETC 5.1 just the speaker set??? You would need an AVR to power these speakers. If you get this avr from US as well, then you would need a step down transformer.

Step down transformer is required to power the subwoofer. I think this speaker system is available in 5.0 also. You can buy a subwoofer from here.

@angynagpal - Firstly, thanks for your response. I am aware that i would also need an AVR to complete the set up. I am planning to buy it from shopyourworld.com. These guys sell AVR's at a very competitive price along with the step down transformer.

@baiju - Thanks for your response. What you have mentioned is indeed a good idea. I too had considered buying only the speaker set and then buy a sub from here. BTW, which sub would you suggest for these speakers? Secondly, since i do not want to stretch my budget beyond 50k i am buying the speakers from US and the AVR in India. Would i need seperate step down transformer for both speakers as well as AVR? Noob question maybe but i am not an audiophile :).

Cheers,
Gokul

Make sure that irrespective of the provider you use (shopyourworld, PPOBox, iShop), you read the feedback that the users have given about these. There are a few threads running about third party shipping services on HFV

Gokul,

Check with avenuesound guys in Mumbai. Their prices are fairly similar to the sellers you mentioned also they provide a step down. Their response and service has been very good (Feedback from some forum members).

Thanks for the heads up kneo. Any threads that you could point me to please?

You can directly order Popbox Media player from their website. Once you move to their buying section, mention your country as India, shipping charges of $44 are added to MRP. The product is shipped from Hongkong. You'll have to bear the customs duty once it's here.

In my case I ordered it thorough one of the dealer and paid Rs.9500/- including everything with bill, VAT & customs.

But you can directly order from their website. I must say the product is really good. I am using it since last 2 months.

If you are buying AVR from India then there is no need of step down transformer. For 110V, a 1.5-2KVA step down can be used for powering both sub and avr.

Any good subwoofer that you think would go well with the Energy take classic 5.0 speakers?

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
