Esoteric DAC D-07 deal on musicdirect.com

I have an Esoteric player which has digital inputs so it can be used as a stand alone DAC. The sound is rather of its own kind. Very large and not fatiguing at all. It's not warm either but on the warm side of neutral in my opinion. It also throws a large soundstage but not as micro-detailed as some as I have heard. Given all this, it is of course of top quality and I am comparing it with other top quality DACs. Digital equipment abroad loses value very quickly when it is not the latest model (or if it is demo or second hand) so one can find good DACs of all brands with patience at 50% or more off. The deal is good if this is what you are looking for.

Esoteric D-07 is not an impressive product from what i read and discussed in audio related forums, specially considering it is Esoteric, hence the discount.

For $2.5k there are much better DAC's available from prism sound,Mytek and forssell. These folks have been making dedicated DAC's and mixers for a very long time and are very positively received in both studio and home audio environments alike.

Here is a detailed review of the D-07.

Computer Audiophile - Esoteric D-07 DAC Review

Honestly I just want to mention that I personally am not a huge fan of Computer Audiophile in general, however the reviewer is very clear in caveating his review as a personal opinion which is honorable. I also like that they chose the WideaLab Aurender S10 as their product of the year. I have heard this machine sounding superb in a few systems and it is often used in shows abroad. I suppose it is just the usual rant one gets on their forum (as it happens occasionally on ours) about pricing of these computer-based products that gets me; as I am one to feel that it is OK to pay for the time the designer put into making the product, rather than the sum of just its components......

I am not sure about that forum(Computer Audiophile) over all but i know some very knowledgeable people there both from pro and home audio, i really do respect their views and inputs. :)

^It is always good to share nice deals so what you did is a good thing. :)

Personally i feel its not that wise now to spend a lot on USB based DAC as designs are changing drastically year after year and it is always going to improve.

For someone seriously considering a DAC specially for playing CD and DVD quality audio Sonore/exD DAC is worth looking at, an online friend of mine has bought it and has been singing praises about the quality music it delivers at a very reasonable price.
