Hi,

i am new to this forum,,, used to read passively, today thought of registering and sharing my views..

i have been in similar situation like most others on buying a LCD / LED tv...

my requirement was a 46" screen.. non 3d, LCD / LED was secondary .... ofcourse dint want a plasma ( for no bad reasons, just personal wish)

started with brand shortlisting, cornored sony and samsung..

started with LCD / LED shortlisting... sony is a mid way, hence shortlisted sony and samsung led.. ( in lcd the c650 was a decent fit though)

did all the yada yada research on Mhz and ratio and internet features etc etc...

time came to visit the shop and swipe the card...

first went to sony ...i had squared on ex710 ( most obvious one) ..
then sent to samsung .. i had squared on c650 / c6900 ( LCD & LED)

since i was a bit crazy on te internet thing, along with other picture quality features and ratio, etc...

sony guys said " sir, ex710, is stopped, we have already washed hands by selling last piece too".... 9/10 dealers said the same... ( ex710 is 90K, was and is too.. the drop came in past 4 months from 120K to 90K)

samsung guys, " sir, c650 is stopped, c6900 is stopped too... But, you may get it with some dealers, who yet has stocks.. since these models were stopped too,, the clearanc started weeks before... ( c6900 was 110000, apprx )

i returned home, like a looser, who had all his plans washed out in few hrs....

take aways were..

1. sony - ex520 has launched, ( but 50Hz and believe me, ex520 isnt worht the spent.. )
2. sony ex720 - none knew when wil it come.. and even if they did , they wont disclose since old stock needed clearances.... ( though, none seriously knew of ex720.. aside to the sony.com US website showing it as launched)...

3. c650 was sideline'd when i saw c6900... but, both were stopped sale... and .. samsung US site said D series about to launch.. but in april.. no dates on track yet..

options i had were.... but a ex710 or c6900 for 90K or 110K and settle...( good option)

else, relax until april and go for a ex720 or the samsung smart tv D6400

risk - D series might be expensive, but the stats said,... sony ex710 droped form 120K to 90K until stop sales and ex520 launched for 90K ( 46") ...

in the us, the c6900 is 2300 $ and the new D 6400 is 1600 $ ..

this boosted my confidence and risk capacity and i am awaiting D 6400...

i also agree that ex720 is a good bet, but now if you compare sony to samsung. the story is self explanatory ( samsung leads... )

if you check, sony has 2 models on high, ex720 and the sony internet tv.. and only ex720 si avaliable in india as of today ..

however samsung wil also have only one model here .. D 6400 and then the series upscales to 7000 and 8000 with DCR and MFT but features are same..

not that Lg, pany, etc are not worth a buy, ,, the above is specific to my taste and views...

hope there are few here who might be on the same boat as me..

we shall compete again ..ex720 Vs D6400 :)

cheers,
G

Well the 46 EX 720 is finally here @104K ....now if we can wait to see what the other coys do price -wise. Sadly or happily depending on where you live LG seems to have multiple pricing across the country.

ok, may be i was a bit overtaken by samsung D series story, so let me refrain from declaring an incomplete match...

saw the ex720 today at sony center, looks amazing.. 1Lac INR ... and the airtel HD conn ( !00 bucks for activate)... no 3d glasses, since it s not a 3d tv

(just like wireless ready ,yo have to buy a dongle to use it), 3d ready means , in future u shall require some external gadget to run 3d on this tv..

dint bother me much, since 3d was never a priority..

sony guys promised a lot in terms of 5 TB of ext hdd pluging capacity.. , 200 hz Motion flow .. etc.. and 50L:1 DCR ...

hope to see samsung linup soon..

btw, sony.com (us), declared 720 on sale.... not sure what this means...

cheers,
g

Hi,
I am a proud owner of SONY 32EX 720, since last week. Really outstanding TV. Great clear picture in SD & HD , Very clear sound. .avi & DIVx support through USB.
And this model is not 3D ready but it is 3D Tv. They are not suppling the glasses in a bundle. U have to purchase it seperatly.
In my opinion , SONY picture quality is far better than LG & Samsung.
LG picture looks like more Vivid. Just like every video shoot in hot summer afternoon.

dude,

we are running short of 2011 now,.. :-P 2010 had many good deals.. ex710 .. c650, etc..

------------------------------------
also could some one tell if the 720 really supports huge ext storage ..
can some one use a 8 gb ucs stick an play a 4gb+ movie print .. etc..

and can someone plug a 1 tb or closeby hdd and play ... hows the internet video and wigit workin.. ( if u bought the dongle)

sony said its 100H motion flow.. however the paper sticker on tv says 200hz .. not sure whats true...

keen to know about the 720 features in real .

cheers,
g

Check out the sony web site. It is 200Hz motionflow. The website lists everything from features to price, which is indicative. Dealers would offer it at almost 4-5% lesser than what is quoted.

^The Motionflow 200hz in the last year model such as HX800 is different from the Motionflow 200XR .The new motionflow 200XR combines earlier 100hz Motionflow with backlight scanning.

@numerouno
Buying tv manufactures proprietary wifi dongle is expensive ,i believe it costs around 4k.Better to do a wired setup.
Or add another 4 to 6k more and get some decent media player like the yet to be launched extreamer prodigy which also has a browser and supports far more formats.

Guys,
I checked EX720 at the show room trichy today. I cannot spot much difference between the 100Hz(XR200) of EX720 and the 50Hz of EX520 in fast action. However, having seen the demo on EX720 with and without motion flow, I feel its better to go for minimum 100 Hz refresh rate.

What impressed me was the 3D in EX720. Though we cant watch it forlonger duration, kids will definitely enjoy the once in a while 3D movies. But, is it worth a 15000 rupees extra than EX520? EX520 costs 65K and EX720 costs 80K. If EX620 is introduced in India, then it will be priced between these two models and just above the price of EX710. Should be around 72 K. In any case I need 100 hz refresh rate. So no need to wait for Ex620 and I feel its better go for EX720.

Guys, what do you feel? Any other suggestions, pls do post. Thanks.

Dont think too much. If you like EX 720 then go for it. Sony has a habit to change the models very frequently(because of various reasons). I was thinking to buy EX 600 in Diwali. Till took final decision,EX 700 came in picture. I was stuck in comparison betn 600 & 700, When decided to buy 700 , Sony switchovered to 710. Then again same process started , finally decided but......Model was out of stock everywhere.
At last ....Taken a delivery of 32 EX 720 on a very first day of launch.

Awesome. Thats it. I am using it in combination with Tata Sky+HD. I havn't taken free Airtel HD connection by Sony. (No discounts) because i am Tata Sky user , now upgraded with +HD.

PQ is great, sound is crystal clear. ......Now go for it... & inform us ...

Hey Thanks. I am ordering it soon to get it installed by 30th when my kids exam will be over. :-)

Was having a close look at the Sony EX720 which was placed next to a Samsung C7000 and below a LG LE5500. The picture was absolutely dull in comparision. Thought the skin tones on the Sony looked more natural- but overall, it was a big dissapointment for me. I was informed, off the record, that the Samsung D series will be out within 2 weeks:anyone here who can reconfirm that, as also abou the new LG models ?

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
